Interesting...$70.00!! Wonder how many they had and are the waters being tested to see if Iliana can raise her price?? None of my business, just thinking out loud. Glad I got in on the first preorder shipment. Her manufacturer can't keep up with the number she needs either. Must be very labor intensive. I predict the price will be increased sometime next year.
Well $50.00 is Iliana's price to manufacture. SSS would need to mark up to cover their business costs. But $20.00 or 40% markup seems high to me but I'm not in retail.

I wondered about the pricing too... On one hand, I suppose selling through SSS will reach a wider market, but they seem to be selling like hotcakes already so I question the need for a middleman. Perhaps shipping them out has gotten overwhelming for Iliana? As long as she's still selling them herself I'd rather buy directly from her. Maybe by the summertime I'll be able to afford one.

When I was young, my grandmother owned a pet store in the Bay Area. I worked and helped manage it for three years. Now this was a b&m store, so obviously our overheard was higher...but our mark up was 200-400% except on live goods. This was 23 years ago, but I do know not much has changed. What I'm saying is the price of mark-up seems reasonable to keep stock, try to increase manufacture order to bring down the cost and the cost of labor/real estate. Bringing new products to market is an extremely difficult task without an investor. I'm VERY happy to see it at SSS!!!
If you don't watch shark tank.....it's very educational about how manufacuring works. My 9yo's favorite show. Lol
If I can ever post from my iPad without typing in "text-lingo" or autocorrect changing a word like **overhead to overheard.....it'll be a miracle!!!! Lol
Someone commented on Ilianas' Facebook page that they saw MISTI made it to SSS. Iliana stated " Only 12. No more until I am caught up." So I guess it will be a while before they have more also.

Reason: correct spelling
From the past threads I've read here SSS has (or had) an absolutely terrible reputation. Is this still true or are they now a good place to order from?

I've bought from them regularly for the past two years or so and haven't had a single problem. I do recall people having issues a while ago, but it's been smooth sailing for me.
Then again, I've also had good service from PTI for a couple years now, so maybe I'm just a lucky shopper.

I have ordered from SSS quite a few times in the last 6 months. Absolutely no problems. Shipping is within a couple days of ordering and it usually takes about 10 days to 2 weeks to get here in Canada.

I love them! They have always been very good to me. Before I started my business, They have sent me replacement items when I got bad stamps. The owner is very nice.

I think you're thinking about PTI. There is a long thread in the forum about them. Seems many have had problems. I've never ordered from them so can't speak from experience.
There is a thread about SSS. Many have had very poor experiences. I just went to look for it to link it here and it is gone from my thread subscriptions. Do you think the thread was removed because they are a member company now? I just cant figure out how the thread would be gone. What I can tell you is after not ordering from them for a couple years I gave them another shot in 2014. I always place large orders normally over $300.00 and that order and every one since then has been handled and shipped very quickly with none of the problems I had experienced with them in the past. I'm so happy they have improved.
Blessings

Reason: wasnt finished.
Oh, I sure hope there won't be a problem with them. I've never ordered from them before, but just placed an order for my Secret Sis for a swap. She's in Canada, and I'm having it shipped directly to her. Going to be on pins and needles until it gets there.
Pam - I think you're probably okay. The thread discussing problems with SSS was older, and it would appear that they've worked to resolve their issues. I know that Jennifer McGuire links to them all the time and, while it's likely that she's an affiliate, she is also a person of high integrity and only recommends things that she actually likes/uses. As Amber said, recent purchases have been trouble-free. Perhaps that thread was deleted or "timed out" because it was no longer representative of truth, where the PTI thread stays active because they haven't done anything to improve their handling of problems...

I remember those threads too. When they became a member company here I figured they must have mended their ways.

There has been a few threads about SSS, I do remember you posting on one or two.
All you have to do in go to General stamping Forum and in the thread search bar type in Simon and I found 4-5 threads just on the first 2-3 pages. I only viewed 6 pages and it went back to 2012. I am sure if you look further you might find your original thread.
I don't think SCS deletes threads. SCS just locks them. I did find a locked SSS thread.

I have been very happy with my purchases from SSS. As I said above, I have purchased a few times and my orders arrive in about 10 days to 2 weeks which is normal shipping times for me in Canada. They provide a tracking number and once it reaches the border you can track it through the Canada Post website. No need to be on pins and needles
Well, my order for my Secret Sis arrived at her home in Canada. Assuming everything is in the box that's supposed to be in there I'd say I'm thrilled with SSS. That's pretty quick from the time I ordered to the time it arrived in Canada. Won't know until Feb. 14th if it was all in there, but I'm confident it is.
(Boy, I hope she doesn't happen to read this thread. Then the cat will be out of the bag! lol I'm sooo bad at keeping secrets!)
I was one of the people absolutely against ordering from SSS. I never received an order from them. They were very poor communicating back then so eventually I had to file to get my money back from Paypal. They provided a bogus tracking number from before I even placed my order! Long story short, I did get my money back. Then along with many others I quit buying from them. I gave them another shot a while later and I have been pleased ever since. I believe they cleaned up their act.
I love their dies and ordering Avery Elle and Clearly Besotted from them.
Blessings
I see the previous posts have said that the MISTI tool sold for $70 at SSS in January, but it is listed at $119.99 now! It includes some accessories, but they only add up to about $20. The MISTI on My Sweet Petunia is only $50. Is this the same tool? Just wondering before I place my order.
Yes, it is the same tool. Don't know why there is such a mark up. I have had mine fo a little over a year and love it. Bought it from 'My Sweet Pentunia' when she was just starting up so got it on sale for $40. Much as I love it, $119 would really make me think long and hard about purchasing it from SSS. I know there would be a mark up but this is almost 'robbing the bank'.

Thank you! I agree, that mark up is a bit much! Thats what made me wonder if it was different somehow, $50 I can do, $120 I'd have to think a lot harder about!
Its the same tool but when you buy from my sweet petunia you are buying from the maker. SSS has added to make a profit, which most companies do. I agree that markup is a lot!
After being back to work (and having an income again) for the past four months, I was contemplating finally buying a MISTI. I looked at SSS since their Canadian shipping rates are fantastic, and was pretty shocked at the markup too. I'll definitely buy it directly from Iliana instead and have it shipped to Washington. I just hope I don't get dinged too badly at the border. I can usually get through with $30-35 purchases without paying taxes, but I've never tried more that that. Pretty sure they'll ding me!
