Ok, I just have to say that I have THE best boyfriend ever! I was telling him about the MISTI and what it does and how it'd be so cool to be able to stamp and RE stamp if needed... or ink and then go over the same image with VersaMark to emboss... and he said, well, buy one! I told him how much they were and he about fell over. I told him there are two of them... basically the same tool, but one can just do bigger cards... (this is right, right?? That's the only difference?)
He told me to go ahead and get the bigger one. But, I'm not sure I NEED the big one... Do I?
I started out with the first one, the bigger one. I just bought the smaller one and I am using it and am not pulling out the bigger one. Depends on what you are doing, I guess. But at this point I would say get the smaller one first.
I have both and use both. Just depends on the type of stamping you're into. I would suggest watching the videos showing different techniques.
Ellen Hutson has a Labor day sale going on so you could get 10% off. On the large one that would pay all but $1.00 of shipping. If you spend $75. you get 15% off.
I have both, but tend to use the mini more simply that it fits my limited work area better. I use my original for larger cards. Glad I have both. If i could only have one it would be the larger.

First ... Congrats on picking a keeper kind of guy!
Second ... If you go up to the top of the forum page on the right hand side, there are three tabs (actually ... only two). One is 'search this forum' and I think you'll find lots of great info to your exact question. It's a good question, just one that's been answered several times already. (I remember well when someone pointed out those tabs for me ... opened up my world! lol!)

Reason: trouble counting ...
I went for the regular size for versatility. If you ever stamp beyond the edge of your cardstock, you have enough room to comfortably do that on the regular size but not the mini. You also can plop stamps down in out of the way areas.
I have the regular size one and recommend it. if you want to do techniques to create a background it might be handy to have that size. For instance you can move the card base to create a striped background rather than move the stamp. You can put a stamp so it is partially off the card etc. if you buy the smaller one and then wish you had the bigger it might cost too much to buy a second one. When I look at the different blocks I bought to find the right size and the right comfort(too thin, too narrow, hard to hold, I seem like goldiocks) replace the darn clear block I can no longer see when I needed it but it was somewhere in my stash (they now have a small piece of washi tape on an edge) etc the price of the Misti doesn't seem so much. I still use the blocks for some things but most of the time it's the Misti.
Check out oozak (I'm a satisfied customer, no other tie). He has them at the same price as everyone else BUT shipping is free when your order is over $50. He has good discounted prices on other things all the time and sales from time to time. Misti hasn't been included in any sales that I've seen but that doesn't mean that he, or others, might have them on sale in the future.
I have the regular and was surprised at the size at first because I thought it was bigger. It's a great size for me because I usually work my cards backwards.... first my stamped image, then I build the background from there. None of my cards are any standard size, its just whatever looks good to me in the end LOL
I guess I agree with everyone else - it all depends on what you want to do / how you prefer to stamp.
PS - you have an awesome boyfriend!

Reason: added positive on bf
Jennifer, I would get the original; it's much more practical.

I would also recommend getting the original size and not the smaller one. A little bit of extra room to work with is not a problem, a Misti too small for your project would be.
My other hobbies are sewing and crocheting. Ask me if I've ever kicked myself for not getting a little bit of extra fabric, or one more skein of yarn to start with. I've been back to the store many times to find they had sold the last fabric on the bolt, or the last skein of the color I needed to finish!

I have decided to get the original one. For now, anyway. I'm working with more A7 size cards now, 5x7, and I don't want to limit my ability to do so with a smaller MISTI work space. Thank you all for your replies and input. <3
