Default Just Rite base

Do you HAVE to have the circular base to use this system?

If you mean the wooden stamper, then yes. If you want to use any of the JustRite alphas, borders, and centers, you need something to affix them to. Any of the wooden stampers will work with the system, oval, rectangle...HTH
However you do not need the self inking one if you already have a wooden base.

Wink

Here is an entry from JustRite Stamper's blog about getting started with their products.

Getting Started

I think they explain it well. Once you start using their products, you will be hooked! I have tons of items, including different sized and shaped stampers and I am so happy with them!

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
