I need help with Castaway ink & inkabilities ink & rainbow sponges
Hi, I was lucky enough to receive my sister's stamping stuff since she has stopped stamping. (I know who in their right mind???) In her stuff is some ink called Castaway ink. She doesn't know what it is or where the directions are. Has anyone ever heard of this? How do you use it? What does it do? I look this up on you tube and found nothing.
Also, there are some Rainbow sponges from Posh Impressions and some Inkabilities Rainbow Sponge Inks also from Posh Impressions. Same thing she does not know how these work or where the instructions are. Has anyone ever used these? I looked both up on you tube and found nothing. Therefore I would appreciate it if someone could help me to learn how to use these products.
As for castaway - again I've never used it but have considered buying some to try. My understanding is that when you stamp with it, and then heat a heat gun, it changes the color of the paper.
Joan, thank you so much for the link on the Posh Impressions items. Now as for the castaway ink, I'm a little nervous to stamp my stamp onto it because I don't know if you need a special cleaner for this stuff or what. I'm guessing by what you are saying you must stamp it onto colored paper. Hmm...maybe I will just give it a try with a stamp I don't use often. You know one of those that you have in a drawer full of individual stamps. lol...I'll let you know how it works.
Good idea - please do let me know... i've always wondered if it would give the same kind of effect as stamping with bleach, but without the danger of spilling the bleach which has always scared me!

Ok, well when I first stamped it it looked like it does when you stamp the same color ink as the paper you are using, then I heated it and the image disappeared. hmmmm....maybe I should let it dry on its own...I'll try that and see what happens..
I have a castaway pad. The directions are to let it dry for 5 minutes then heat with an iron; I assume a heat gun will work, too. It will not work on coated paper because it needs to soak in. You will have to do some trial and error to find paper it will work with. I have had so so results, but to be fair haven't spent a lot of time playing with it. Good luck, and enjoy your new goodies.

Ahhh okay. Thank you. I wonder if stampin up paper is coated. Hmmm...Do you know if it is?
Castaway pad caught my eye. Honestly, I threw mine away.
I couldn't get any decent results and at the time there was mention of it on another thread here and no one else did either.
Maybe they've reformulated it though.
Here's a blurb I've found:
"The Castaway pad stamps clear but when you iron the stamped image, it lightens the paper, similar to, but much more effectively than stamping with bleach."
Here is more information from Blockheads Paper Arts:
Thank you Nancy. I have been playing with it and I have to say, I like the results of the bleach much better. I'm just not having any luck with this. So...I think I will set it aside and come back to it at some other time. Thank you for the link. I sure would like to know how they got it to work. Of course this pad could be very old for all I know. So maybe that is why its not working. Not sure. lol...
I bought the castaway pad some time ago, and I never got it to work. I ended up throwing it out.
I have heard this from several people.
Either you have to use an actual iron (too much of a pain) or it is only good when it is super fresh (ie when they are demoing it at a stamp show).
I have not seen a castaway pad for sale though in a few years, so I wonder if they even still make them?
I'm glad you told me this. I am starting to feel like I have spent way too much time with this. I played with both bleach and the castaway. I can get the bleach to work (without the use of an iron) I used my heatgun. Much easier. But I used both with the castaway and nothing. So I am thinking it's either old ink or the stuff just doesn't work like it's supposed to. I have put it aside for now. Don't know that I will ever pick it up again. lol...I may just throw it away. I haven't heard anyone rave about it that is for sure.
I agree with the posters above- everything I have read about the Castaway pad says that it doesn't live up to its publicity, and that using bleach is a much better option. I must admit, it was on my list of things I must have, lol, but after what I read from others about it, I decided to give it a miss. Glad I did now.
Well should any of you want to try it and play around with it let me know I will send it to you. I am sticking with bleach. Now to play around with these inkabilities inks and rainbow sponges. Has anyone played with those yet? These too might be very old. I have swap cards I am finishing and then I'll spend time with those. Any suggestions would be great!!
The only time I had luck with a Castaway pad was on really cheap thin cardstock, dark colors, mostly blacks, browns and purples. Even when it work it looked so splotchy and uneven.
I'm not sure they even make it anymore since it was such a bomb
