Default On the hunt for a new printer... here's what I need... suggestions?

I need a new printer and want to do a little research first. I need these features:
1) print/scan/copy all in one
2) handle heavy card stock (wish it would run 140lb watercolor paper, but I'm sure that is just a dream!!)
3) ink that is lightfast (won't fade with time and sunlight) and reasonably waterproof
4) ink refills that aren't too expensive and don't run out too quickly

What printers do ya'll use and what do you recommend?

I just purchased a Samsung all in one color laser printer at Office Max on Saturday, it is great fir wireless printing. It was 399.99 on sale this week for 199.00. I want to use it for digi printing.
So far I love it! Model 460fw if i remember correctly.

How much are the ink cartridges for your laser? Does it take heavy cardstock pretty good?

Hi OP.

Before we go further, just fyi I have not used this laser printer or laminator yet, but they both come well-recommended from what I consider to be reliable sources. I plan to try these both out w/in the next few weeks. I have an inkjet, which I'll use for color, but I wanted a black and white laser printer for foiling and for mixed media work. I do not need anything heavy duty or fancy.

Here's the SCS thread where I requested some help chosing a printer:
Need monochromatic laser jet recommendations, please by QueenOfInkland at Splitcoaststampers

Here's the info for what I purchased:
I bought this wireless multi-purpose laser printer/scanner/copier on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The toner cartridge I got also from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 <---this is standard yield; you can buy high yield. You can get a compatible cartridge that is not the Brother brand for less than the Brother brand

Just in case foiling is of interest, I got this laminator on Amazon for the foiling (also well-recommended by sources I trust):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm pretty sure this laminator comes wider than 9".

HTH and good luck

In order to get waterproof, you have to have one that uses pigment ink and I think the only one that does is Epson. Maybe not all models though. Mine uses 3 dye and 1 pigment but I don't know how to make it use only the pigment (which is one of the black inks).

I buy generic ink from monoprice.com
I know how to force the printer to print from that cartridge, but its kind of complex.

My Canon MX892 at work is scan, copy, print, and it FORCES you to use 4 small ink cartridges, blue, magenta, yellow and black AND a larger black one. It draws from all when I ONLY print in black. We did test it for correct color printing once and it was very good at copying and printing colors. One good thing, you hand feed the paper into the back, so it can print on heavier cardstock than my HP 3 in One at home. You feed paper in the front then it has to curve around before printing. It won't print on SU cardstock because it won't bend like cheap cardstock. I don't print as much at home, but the One ink cartridge is big and seems to last a long time....years!
I just bought another HP with paper feed at the back. I just like HP products.

Thank you everybody! After some extensive research I picked the Epson Workforce 7610. (Regular priced $250 on sale for $179) It had a lot of great reviews on Amazon, as well as 100 answered questions, and from what some where saying it will take super heavy cardstock from the single sheet feeder on the back. And, the Durabrite ink is water-resistant which is important to me.
My thoughts on what I'm trying to do is this. These days I'm focused on my Watercolor and Ink art. I draw something on 140lb watercolor paper with my waterproof black ink pen (Faber-Castell Pitt). Then I paint it with my watercolor. I've also done some playing around with stamps and StazOn ink and then watercoloring those. Then it occurred to me .... why don't I just paint some of my own digi stamps from my TiffanyDoodles.com store!!! I've already got 100's of them in there!! DUH!!
So, I'm gonna give it a whirl and see how it goes! My printer should be here Monday! Give me a few days to get in the groove and I'll let ya'll know how it goes!!
