I have been making mini-albums and have been using a brayer to make sure that the paper is adhering well to the chipboard pages. If I want to use the brayer to ink up background stamps, how do I clean it well enough so that I can use the brayer for my albums? Or do I need to buy a second brayer?
Melinda
I have been advised to have two brayers: one for black ink and one for everything else. I haven't used black ink with a brayer yet, so I only have one. I just rinsed the roller part (not the handle) under running water and let it dry. I don't know that it's the best way, but it worked for me!
I can't believe you only have one reply to your question! Here's what I do - I first roll it around on my grid paper to get off all the ink I can that way, then I take a baby wipe to it and that gets it very clean. I haven't used black ink on my brayer, however. I do have 2 brayers in case I want to do that. After using the baby wipe, I let it air dry or roll it around on a towel that I keep handy just for drying my brayer, wheels (which I clean the same way) and background stamps.
Hope this helps!

Now I might not be the best person to ask since I have some black ink on mine but I just take it over to the sink and rinse it right off. It's worked fine for years.
I am so fortunate to have my grandmother's brayer. It has stains on it, but I clean it with baby wipes each time I use it. I always feel somewhat connected to her when I use it. I'm sorry she died before I started stamping. She would have loved stamping! She used her brayer in other craft projects.

What a great post for your first one!! Welcome. I also have two brayers one label for light ink and one for darks. The dark one is black now and the light one is pink for some reason. I just roll off as much ink as I can and rinse them off in the sink after use. The staining doesn't affect how they work.

I have to agree with Katy! I have 2. One is stained black and the other has pink stains on it! I have used baby wipes and also just rinsed it off under the faucet!

I just rinse mine in the sink. I did use black on it and it is now stained but the stain does not affect anything else I brayer. Never thought of getting a second one - good idea!
I use my brayers all of the time and I just keep a bottle of Simple Green cleaning spray on hand just for my brayers. It is enviromentally safe and cleans the brayers and my rubber stamps up really well. I find Simple Green usually at Home Depot or Jewel-Albersten's in their organic department.
Doesn't Simple Green rock?! It's great for all kinds of things around the house. Use it mixed with water in your pressure washer on siding and lawn furniture...works as good as bleach and is much safer! Don't know why I'm saying all this, I don't sell it or anything, just a fan! Hee, Hee!
I just roll my brayer around on my Stampin' Scrub, after removing some of the ink on scrap paper. Works great for me - and no staining, at least not yet.
I like having two brayers for different techniques. After doing the Joseph's Coat, my first brayer was permanently stained and it made it difficult to see what my ink coverage was for tech's like marker plaids, stamping on the brayer and then rolling, etc. Simple Green works great to keep them clean, IYKWIM (yes, bad rhyming intentional, must now make dinner, bye!)
I roll it on scratch paper until it is clean. THEN I roll it on the 'wet' side of my stampin' scrup, then dry it on the dry side.
Incidentally, I took a silver sharpie and wrote 'WET' and an arrow pointed down so there is no chance people at stamp camps can not know which side of the 'washer' is for the cleaning process. So far it has worked great. Helps me too :-)

Have any or all of the replies so far been of help to you? They worked fine for me UNTIL I used one of mine for the same mini albums. Apparently, some of the glie got on the brayer and everything I tried above did not help take off the dried up residue on the brayer. It's tacky and doesn't feel really smooth tho it looks very clean. i was fortunate enough to have another brayer - so I now work with 3 of them. I use this tacky brayer only for soothing out my MP or Royal Coat.
I use
- one to ink
- one to apply even pressure when inking the cardstock (I do not have the strength in my hands to do it another way) and
- one to smooth out bubbles.
So, if this i your problem with tackiness/residue v.s. ink, I'd say get another brayer unless someone has a solution for us both.

Have you tried UnDu or Gunk Off? Some folks also find rubbing alcohol removes adhesive, but I would go with UnDu first.
I can't live without 8-10 brayers in different sizes (widths) and hardnesses of rubber....probably back to my art class training. I even have some porous ones that are really fun for textures. I have a narrow one and a wider one dedicted to just laying down paper that I have never used for ink or paint. They are so cheap at art stores that that is one thing on which I won't compromise. I use stamp cleaner on the hard rubber ones and soap and water on the spongey ones.

Thanks for this suggestion - I have not tried these, I've used all the cleaners mentioned throughtout our SCS threads since I've gotten them all. ;) These sound familiar, too. At the moments I only have r alcohol at my disposal.
Are UnDu and Gunk Off similar to Goo Gone? This sounds worth a try as these brayers are $12.50 here. luckily for me, I won an assortment of them on the bay and never knew how much I'd end up loving them TFTH!
I bought this on ebay with different colors stazon pads. It works well on cleaning the black stains off of my rubber stamps. Maybe a solvent cleaner will work on the rubber brayer. I have a set of brayers-clear acrylic, sponge, and rubber. I bought them on ebay and they were reasonable. Maybe you could get an acrylic one to use with your mini albums.
Stampin Nana,
Tho I'm not the OP; appreciate your input. I have tried the Stazon solvent cleaner without success. The Mod Podge dried up on the brayer before I realized I had a problem. I find that Ultra Clean liquid is the best for removing black ink stains and all kinds of things on old rubberstamps - but it also didn't help thee rubber brayer. However, your idea about investing in an acrylic brayer thru the bay sounds very good; I just never thought i'd need one til now. Thanks again!
