I am always on the search for the perfect trimmer. I had an amazing old Tonic guillotine one from SU, but it finally bit the dust and I bought one to replace it, it was crap, so I was sent another and it cut awful as well. I know why they discontinued them.

Anyway, back to the drawing board. I've bought 2 since then from Fiskars out of desperation and both cut fuzzy. So now I am back on the hunt yet again.
Since Tonic sadly doesn't make the large Guillotine trimmers anymore (why, Tonic? WHY?!?) I have the smaller one and I love it for smaller papers, but when I cut my cards along the 11" side I have to use something larger. So I googled and looked up all the recommendations listed here and am considering the CARL Heavy 12" trimmer here: http://www.amazon.com/Heavy-Rotary-P...rotary+trimmer

or the CutterPillar Pro (or Crop) found here: CutterPillar.com

Kinda leaning towards the CutterPillar because their website is very user friendly and I found videos and great info. And I love the idea of NO replacement blades. Ever.

I have a Dahl that I love for it's precision. However the grid wore off and I painstakingly redrew each line with a fine Sharpie, but it, too, has worn off. I would like one that has 8ths and 16ths in a guillotine style, so am starting to research again. I'm afraid to buy another Dahl as I'm afraid the same thing would happen. Used my daughter's just recently and it has all the features I want, except it moves around easily on the table, which can result in miss-cuts.

I have the Carl, and don't like it for card making. I do use it for cutting chipboard, even mat board. I'm also not a fan of rotary trimmers. I, too, have tried many. I wanted a guillotine trimmer to replace my SU guillotine. It's still going strong, but wanted a larger one without the collapsing extra width arm. Don't know why I'm having such a problem describing my SU one, LOL. I recently purchased this one, and love it. The paper is securely held, and it shaves the tiniest slivers accurately.

OK, so this is the exact cutter I have. I had the wrong name as I couldn't find a name on it and someone told me it was a Dahl. Anyway, I love how it performs. My biggest gripe is that the grid has worn off---twice! I would also like it to have smaller increments on the ruler, if not on the grid. Wish I could be sure the grid wouldn't rub off, as I would buy a new one just for that.
