Got Nestabilities? Still use marvy scalloped punches??
I'm thinking about selling my marvy scalloped punches and ordering the Nestabilities. If you have both, do you find that you still use the Marvy punches? Will I regret selling them?
True the punches is much easier to used so much harder to store.Because when you want to do a layer you need two/three punches The Nestabilities however is much easier to store and you have several size option for layering .I got the Rectangle Nestabilities and love them.I am planning on getting the circle...I personally like the Nestabilities.I do however have both the Punches and Nestabilities...Hope this help.

Since getting my Nestabilites (and I do have ALL of 'em), I have not used my punches once!! They are taking up a TON of space in one of my drawers. I just may have to sell 'em off!!
I love my marvy punches. I hate lugging out my big shot and the appropriate sandwich accessories just to cut out a quick oval.
I also used my marvy scalloped circle punches recently in my preschool class. My little kiddies just love punching out shapes! They think it's the coolest thing! They aren't quite strong enough to punch by themselves, but we punch together.
Don't get me wrong, I love the nestabilities, but very often, I'm in a hurry and I need a quick oval for a card or gift bag, etc and I love the punches for quick cutting!
I am thinking about buying some of these. Are they worth it? Are they similar to the QK cookie cutter dies (circle scallops)? The QK ones are not solid all the way through and I have found that they leave a 'rim' around where the edge of the die ends in the center which I do not like. Does that make sense? I am not happy w/my QK ones for this reason - maybe I am doing something wrong?
If the nesties are better, do you prefer the Lg Circle & Lg Scallop Circle look as oposed to the Sm Circle & Lg Scallop look?
Lastly, where is the best place to order them (cost & shipping Low)?
I currently do not have any of the marvy punches

I have one set of Nestibilities, but still use my punch if it's the right size oval for what I'm doing. It's easier thatn pulling out the Cuttlebug for one cut.

If you need to do a lot of shapes, I'd keep the punches...you can only cut one size of each shape with the nesties at a time (unless you have doubles of a die), so it is more time consuming. You can't beat the nesties for the embossing and the layering possibilities though...I say you need both!!

I'm getting a bunch of Nesties ... so it will be interesting to see what becomes of my Marvy punches. I really hope I like the Nesties, since I have a bunch of different shapes coming!
I'm getting the nesties and I will also keep my punches for quick use. But then again, I only have a few punches- not a huge collection. So it's not a big deal for me. Maybe you should keep them for a month or two. And if you find you still don't use them, then sell.
My problem is that I tried and tried for an hour last night to get the nesties and my cuttlebug to cut through Cardstock and it wouldn't do it! I had the appropriate sandwich and I even added another layer of cardstock for pressure but it just wouldn't cut. I will try again today but I am thinking that we need to keep punches to cut out cardstock.

This isnt meant to be snarky or rude ... but keep trying to cut cardstock with the Nesties and the Cuttlebug, because it SHOULD cut cardstock. Every tutorial I have seen shows that it cuts cardstock. The fact that it cuts AND embosses is what makes it a big seller in my opinion. If it didnt cut cardstock, people would absolutely not get rid of their punches ... and people are. So maybe you need more of a shim or something ... maybe you need more than one additional layer of cardstock - it would depend on your own Cuttlebug. Good luck getting it to cut also!

I use a piece of fun foam in there as well, and it acts as an additional shim. Keep trying, it WILL work!! You just need the right combo sandwich! :-)

Ditto on this, except I don't have little kids to punch ;) :p

I don't even have the punches, I can't afford them. Are the nesties cheaper? I use my cuttlebug dies with my sizzix and a converter. Could I use the nesties the same way?
And speaking of kids and punches, I have several cheap bug and shape punches for my preschoolers I bought at a dollar store, they sell them three in a pack at Michaels for A LOT more then a dollar. They really love using them. We have a few "old school" punches and my students aren't strong enough.. I have carpel tunnel and I am barely strong enough! lol
I have the nesties and love them but I also have the punches and I still use them. Sometimes I just want to grab a punch and pop out the shape instead of grabbing the Sidekick, finding the nestie, getting the cutting plate, etc. But sometimes I want a smaller frame around a shape and the nesties are much better for that. I guess I use them about 50/50 so I'll hang on to all of them.
I have almost alll the Nesties- except for the long rectangles (but I pre-ordered them from ucutathome.com). I still use the punches every once in a while because they're a little quicker and easier to use. But 90% of the time I reach for the Nesties!
I have a couple sets of Nesties and I do like them for the embossed effect. I will probably end up getting more of them. However, the punches are just so quick and easy if you are just doing a quick punch. All of the layering to use the Nesties is just a pain sometimes although the results are definitely worth it. I think I will always use my punches for those quick jobs. I still love my punches!
Wow... thanks for the great responses. All of your replies have been helpful. I guess I'll hold on to them for the time being and see whether or not they become dust collectors
I don't have the nesties because of my S-in-l's experience. She bought the nesties, and still prefers the punches. I've been tempted, but I have most of the Marvy clever lever punches that layer. It was a large $ investment, and I do use them all the time. I volunteer at our senior center, and I can take which punch or punches fit the project without having to use a big machine.
I know the nesties have more versatility, and take up less room, but they are not at the top of my list right now. Eileen

Just received my circle scallop nesties this week. I finally got the hang of cutting with my big shot and haven't tried embossing yet. I like that they are easy to store and less expensive. But it like the other posts say it does take a lot more time to set up. I still like my punches and I don't see me giving them up. Yes they take up space but they are so easy to use no thinking about the layers. I think the most useful are having the scallops, circle, and ovals. Plain squares I can cut my self if I don't already have a punch.
I didn't read all of the posts, but keep them!! At least for a while. I have bothe the Nesties and the Marvy punches, and I use them for different things. Sometimes it is nice to just punch it out instead of dragging out a machine, die, try to line it up right, etc...you kwim.
You could try the Nesties, and if you don't use the punches any more, sell them, and if you don't like the Nesties (can't imagine that!), I'm sure someone on here would buy them from you!!
Good luck!!
I figured out how to cut w/nesties. I had the embossing sandwhich set up instead of cutting sand. lol
I love these things. I have scalloped squared and rectangles now and I just love them. I will keep my scalloped the oval punches for now.
Thanks everyone for all of the great input! I plan on getting the Nesabilities at some point also. I only have a few punches and I would still keep those.

Ditto... I haven't bought nesties because I would have to lug out my CB and do the deed... or I can just grab my punch and punch in my lap. IF... I had more space and I could leave out my CB all the time... I would do nesties!

That is a great point, I have my cuttlebug out all the time so it is very easy for me. I have the spacers and all on top of my desk.
With the nestabilities, can you stamp and then punch? I don't have the nesties, so I don't know much about them. That's one thing I LOVE about punches. I can stamp an image and then place my punch exactly where I need it.
I think it depends on your style and your sb set up. I find it easier to just reach for a punch in the middle of a page/card/project. But my sb area is small and a weird shape and over crowded with my stash so its a bit of a pain in the wahoo to get up from my desk and go to the bigkick (which is usually under a pile of stuff I haven't put away) so I haven't bothered with the 2 sets of nesties I bought at a convention ages ago... However, I have found I really only like the paper shaper punches (haven't tried the new giga by I think Marvy) but I do have tons of punches I bought 9 years or so ago that don't punch well and I need to get rid of.

I have both and reach for my punches more frequently. I don't have a designated spot for my machine so I must pull it out every time. The punches hang behind my door and on a shelf. Perhaps if my machine sat out and ready to go I would use the Nestabilities more frequently. There certainly are more sizes.
