I was given the darn thing and could never make it work. Glad I didn't pay good money for it. Have much more luck with the Coluzzles when doing circles or whatever. Saw a tip about coloring each circle with a different marker which makes it even easier to use. You don't lose your place when you go to the other side of your circle.
I've actually had pretty good luck with mine. It was my first scrapbook purchase. I like the coluzzle for layering, but like the shape cutter because it doesn't have tabs to cut. I found that the tricks to success include:
* Play with the height of the contraption while using scrap paper. I barely adjust mine anymore.
* Tape your template to your paper (with painters tape) so it doesn't slip.
* Start soft and gradually increase pressure - that way you don't drag the paper.
Thanks Ladies. After the first couple of posts, I was beginning to get a little worried though. lol Apparently, I had the wrong templates. Today, I went and bought the RIGHT ones, so now I am going to go see if I can't figure it out. Thanks for all the tips. I'll let you know if I can get the silly thing to work.
Well, I got the thing figured out. It's pretty handy! Even after the lovely advice about making sure the template was facing up, I still (just once) placed it upside down, and guess what?? I couldn't make the cutter work!! Duh. I'm such a goober. But, since I had been told ahead of time not to do this, it was easy to figure out what I did wrong. lol Thanks for all the tips.
I have had mine for a couple of years now and really like it. One of the things I found that is very important is to pay attention to how the blade is facing when placed on the paper. If it's not lined up right your finished edges won't line up right. Also, press the plastic of the cutter against the template when you run it around the template, but make sure you hold the cutter straight up and down. It also helps if you stand up while cutting. HTH
Good luck with your shapecutter! I got to "know" mine and I really really like it. I have the circle, oval and tag templates, as well as the 4 templates that came with it, flowers etc. The tag template has a tag on it that resembles a snowman, its very cute. In the newest PaperCrafts mag there is a snowman card that has a drawing/diagram of the hat etc. for a snowman, you could just enlarge this and cut out to place on top of the tag-template "snowman"
