The first embossing powder I bought was from Stampin Up! It worked great and so I got a couple more colors. I love that the containers are all the same shape and size - but that's just me.

Recently I bought some at Joann's - different brand but seems to work just as well. It says "Creative Beginnings".

Found some gold on sale at Michael's some time ago and can't even find a brand on the container! Original cost was $2.99 though because the sticker is still on the side.

Hope that helps!

hello! I am new to embossing too. I made a great, well not so great discovery called "thick of me" from Gel - a- tins. Stay away from it, if it is for your embossing with the stamps, it is horrid. I posted a question about this stuff a week or so ago and I think someone was suggesting using as a cracked glass effect. However having written all that I have found the hero arts clear and sparkle powder is quite nice to work with.

I hope this helps, happy embossing!

Something to keep in mind with embossing powders is that they come in different thicknesses. It is actually small pieces of plastic that melt, and the thickness is determined by the size of the pieces. If you want to emboss very detailed images, I recommend detail embossing powder, it will say that on the label. Regular is fine for most images. Ultra Thick Embossing is intended for completely coating something to give it a glass effect, the broken glass effect, or you can actually melt a pile of it and while it is still hot, press a rubber stamp into it (leave it alone until cool) and you will have the imprint of the stamp. There are many ways to use this fun stuff, just wanted to give you a little info to help you buy just what you need.

I have not found much difference between brands.

When buying the solid colors like black and white, I like the ultra fine embossing powder. It sticks a lot better and shows more details.
