My hubby gave me one for Christmas and it has over 100 attachments! It looks completely cool and fun and like it could do a lot of things... but I'm intimidated to try it....!
Anyone have one and if so - what have you used it to do?

All I can say is WATCH OUT! He may try to take this gift from you and use it himself. My husband loves his Dremel and has used it for tons of home improvement projects.

I gave my DH one for Christmas so he won't try to touch any of my crafting tools. LOL He love his.
I have a Dremel, but ask me if I've taken it out of the box since I purchased it 2 yrs ago.........NOPE! I know it can do lots of neat things, but I've just not taken the time to read the instructions on how to make it do what all it can do. I know it can even file the nails on my Golden Retriever.
I got a dremel a few years ago when I wanted to make jewelry from stamped dominoes. I used it to make the holes in them. I've also used it to sand edges on cut-up CDs when I made pins, etc. from them. I remember using it lately for something else, but can't remember what!

My DH has one, and just loves it! Could it be that he gave it to you, so that he could use it himself? ;)

Yes I have one and use it for sanding small lunch boxes before painting them. One thing I tried was trimming my stamps that were mounted and had not removed enough rubber do so with care. Distressing
Also used it to drill holes in soda bottles and cut the tops off-make soda bottle fish.
My friend gave it to me and I do share it once in a while.

Thanks for the ideas....especially the distressing...using the dremel sure would beat hand sanding the edges of 16 coasters to make a pencil box for my prismas, now wouldn't it? (too late for that, sadly!)

Yes, I have one that I took from my dh's tool box..I use his to sand off the edges of the tiles that come together in a sheet..You know that ones that people make magnets out of..just by sanding those extra bumps that were attached on the sheet, makes the tile nice and smooth.

One day I saw an ad on Tv for dremels and it must of stuck in my head. That night I dreamt of mechanical spiders chasing me and I woke myself up yelling "the dremels are coming, the dremels are coming". I don't think I can bring myself to buy one no matter how good, this dream is still very vivid in my mind, just the mention..Ugghh !

I used mine (with a diamond tip) to engrave Merry Christmas 2007 on the glass jars I filled with candy and decorated for gifts this year - I love it!

WOW! You must have one steady hand!! I'd probably go right through the glass. Do you have pictures?
I don't have a Dremel - hubby does. I have a Chizel-It by Provo Craft which is somewhat similar. I rarely use it. I did use it to scuff up some aluminum tags but I wasn't thrilled with the results. I used the cottonish tip to buff some metal and that was cool. If you figure out what to do with your Dremel for crafts please post it!!

I just looked at the box again and it has over 200 attachments!!
And no - my dh is a contractor... he has a barn full of his own tools... this one is too dainty for him It's small - fits in the palm of my hand like a gun and is cordless.
I will just have to get it out and play...
I'll bet it will cut out recessed deep windows in altered books really easily!
Would love to hear more ideas!!!

I got one for my birthday a few years ago before I was into stamping and I love it! I refinished a baby crib and the attachments are great for getting into tiny places. I have cut metal tubing, trimmed the new bottom edge of the garage door, drilled holes, but I never thought to use it for cardmaking. Be careful when sanding, it doesn't take much. Mine is the corded one, it has more power. The wheels are now turning, lol.

My DH writes his name on everything we own...everything. He got me into that groove too and I have now 'written' my name on most of my tools! From my Cropadile to my plastic cutters, the Dremmel makes it easy and permanent.
When I had dogs I used my cordless Dremmel to file their nails.... worked much better than any of the "standard" nail cutters - no rough edges, no blood if you cut to much and cut their quick, and most dogs seem not to mind it as much as nail cutters / clippers (some dogs have to get used to the noise factor)
You can purchase "special" rotary nile files for dogs but it cost 3x that of a Dremmel and it does not have all the fun attachments for crafting - and it is the same bloomin' thing!
I use a lot of lighted garland for most holiday decorating. I use my Dremmel to drill holes in various holiday decorations so that I can slip the little light bulbs from a strand of white Christmas lights into them.
Plastic Easter eggs look GREAT like this.
It was also a God send when sanding the kitchen cabinets... it just gets into places that the belt and palm sanders can't get.

I've had one for two years...son used it a little...DH used it and broke it!! Just got it repaired so now I get to play! I plan on using it while crafting with gourds....yep you can stamp them too! Or freehand onto them =) I am really interested in the ways people use these....will have to try the engravig on glass...doing a lot with the glass blocks right now too! Thanks for the thread hope to learn a lot.
We've had a Dremel for about four years, my husband got it as a gift from his brother. I have never seen him use it. I just asked him if he's used it, and he said "Yes." "To do what," I replied. "Stuff," he answered. I countered with "What stuff," and he coyly responded, "Dremel stuff."
I don't think he's used it.
This same brother-in-law got me a woodburning tool and instruction book for Christmas. I swear I have never expressed any interest whatsoever in woodburning. Why do some people have to be so, er, creative when giving gifts?

I have had one for several years and never thought to use it with paper. I will have to try it. I have the chizel-it and I think it is a waste of money. Not powerful enough to do anything I couldn't do by hand just as quickly.
Misha - you'd better cut out TV for a while - lol

I use mine for drilling holes in dominoes, dowels, and will soon use it for making holes in beach glass. I have ordered special drill bits for the glass and when they get here, I plan on using the dremel to drill the glass for jewelry. I am sure I don't use mine to it's full potential, but I love it!
I'm not positively sure about this, but it seems like I remember reading on 2Peas years ago that scrapbookers used Dremels to cut out cs inside those old plastic shaped templates for a precision cut.
My DH bought me one as I couldnt figure how to put small holes in CDs. friend of mine showed me how to do this with a dremel. Lay a stitching pattern over the CD the use the dremel to make small holes. Once this is done, stitch on the cd & attach to cards, etc.
I have had a dremel for years (at least twenty) and have used it for making miniature furniture and houses but I must say it never occurred to me to use it for stamping projects. You guys have given me some great ideas. Thanks.
I use my Dremel for wood projects but I also use it to make little wooden accessories for my cards and its great for sanding the rough edges of the wood stamp blocks =) MaryB
I'm pretty sure that the Dremel website has a variety of projects for the tool.
Can't remember the URL at the moment, but I'm sure it will come up if you google. it.
Thinking of getting one of these:rolleyes: LOL............
I know you can use these with polymer clay (hole drilling, sanding) but what caught my eye  was the Lisa's (of Simply Swank/Simply Solder) dvd where she used the dremel to sand bumpy soldering - said it made it look so nice and was so fast compared to sanding with a file.....
I am in the process of getting up the nerve to undertake soldering........I even bought glass to cut to custom sizes and I read where you can use the dremel to sand rough or uneven glass edges........
Anyone out there who uses a dremel with glass/soldering/polymer clay?

Everyone in my house is short.I even have to hem petite pants. When I hem my sons' pants they don't like a "clean" bottom edge, so I take the dremmel and distress the bottoms.
I too just orderd the cd I have had mine for 4 years and it's still in the box. I only opened it xmas day to check it out. My hubby even bought me an extended box with lots of attachments. I need to use it. Thanks again for the link..
