Default Ribbon and Fiber Storage

I am sorry if this has posted before but I need some advice. I know about the cool spool ribbon holders. My problem is the strands that are not on rolls. Right now they are in a tub and a tangled mess. Any suggestions?

I keep all my ribbon and fibers in small, square 3x3 plastic ziptop bags. I punch a hole in the bottom corner and hang them on large loose leaf rings. I have a section of my studio wall with hooks on it. Each color family has it's own LARGE ring and hook. It's easy for me to grab the "pinks" ring and glance through the clear bag to find the style, size and color I want. I don't even have to remove the bag from the ring, just open the top, pull out the amount and cut.
I have kept them this way for years now because I saw a photo once of Heidi Swapp's room, and that's what she did. I like it because even very small pieces are easy to see and don't get lost (or fall off the spool/card).

I bought a case of 1000 bags from www.fetpak.com 3 years ago and will NEVER use them all up. I think it cost me about $9 for the bags.
Let me find the link...hold on...

OK, here's the link: http://www.fetpak.com/whstore/main.pl/itl?15
Looks like the price has gone up to $10.15 for 1000 3x3 bags.

I use those old fashioned clothes pins and then throw them in a glass jar. I don't know it may be a hassle for u, but I love the look and the ease. HTH

Hobby Lobby sells plastic ribbon cards and fiber cards by Cropper Hopper. They also sell plastic ribbon clips. I have converted all of my spools to this system. I love it! My growing ribbon collection doesn't take up as much space as it did before. You call also see what I am talking about on Cropper Hopper's website.

You can also use floss cards (in the embroidery section) and put them in a floss container. They are real similar to the cropper hopper cards. I can't always find those so I just use the ones for floss and it seems to work good for me. They only seem to hold small amounts of ribbon (1-3 yards) is the only problem I have found. HTH

Hi! I live in the UK and tend to buy ribbon by the metre in a local shop, basically because I don't use much ribbon (don't have time to make many cards) and they display the price by metre not by spool. I loop my ribbons over a clothes hanger, co-ordinating similar colours. The length isn't too long and I can see and compare colours to cardstock/embellishments together very easily. This probably wouldn't work too well if you have large lengths of ribbon or hunderds of different ribbons, but seems to work well with me so far. This will probably change!!

I keep them in little (~2"x3") zip bags from the craft store and store them in the SU! plastic storage boxes (that the stamps come in). At first they were by color family in small boxes, then I had to move up to bigger boxes, then most families are split into warm (red, yellow, orange) and cool (blue, green) boxes. All the boxes fit in a plastic checkout bag. I like granolagirltoo's system though.

i buy the cheap dollar store clothespins and wrap them around. Secure them with a sewing pin. Toss them in a drawer.

That's sort of what I do!! Works like a charm, but I'm liking that cropper idea, I might start looking into those floss thingys.

Default I got the 3 X 3 zipper bags and love it!

I purchased the 3 X 3 zipper bags (online) and wrapoped each strand around my fingers to fit in the bag. I then used the suggestion to put them on the loose leaf ring binders. Each ring has a different color grouping. I have them in a drawer in one of my rolling drawer units.

I love it! Not only is it nice and tidy and I can easily match the the colors. I noticed which colors I dont have much of a selection!

Thanks to "granolagirltoo" for giving met his idea!

Bonnie

My room is almost done! I cant wait til the next VSN night. I will be able to find things super quick!

Here's an idea for your ribbon storage.

I used CD insert and wrap loose ribbon around them:
Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

They stack very nicely:

And I use photo and tins to put all my rolls of ribbon:

If you check out my blog you will see the tin that I store the rolls of ribbon in.

I use the CH cards and drawers...I just wrapped 100 cards and I still need more....by my calculations I have over 1000 YARDS of ribbon!!!

I sat here this morning as I was wrapping and said to my hubby..."dang...I have a crapload of ribbon...."...his reply was the basic "no crap" blank stare....

I just tried to order the bags from the link above and the minimum order is $25. Not sure what I would do with 2000+ bags :(
