Well I'm rather ashamed to admit that I don't have a Cuttlebug, yes I know shameful but I am considering it (or something similar) so why should I get one?
I'm sure you won't have too much trouble convincing me to spend money ;) so what is so great about them?
I love my cuttlebug!! I use it alot! I just went to Archivers over the weekend for a scrap thing (I don't scrap) but wanted to hang out with some of my friends, and stamp. So I was limited on what I could bring, cause lets face it we have alot of stuff we could bring! So I brought my cuttlebug and used it on every card I made!! I made 2 Fathers Day cards, one with a golf theme, but I didn't have a golf theme folder or die, so I used a a folder that looks like the texture of a golf ball, then used a circle punch! Then I used a folder that has tall grass with a bird, which I used for the "rough" I really love my cuttlebug! Check out this site for more ideas....she does beautiful work! http://www.heartprints.net/gallery/cuttlebug/
Hope I helped!! I just bought a Cricut and hope I am as happy with it as I am with my cuttlebug!!!
I love my 'bug! I don't do a lot of die cutting and really pondered for a long time and did quite a bit of research. I liked the fact that it's small and doesn't take up much room but is really sturdy. I do all my crafts at home, so portability wasn't an issue for me, but it can be transported quite easily.
Another thing that persuaded me was that you can use pretty much any die or folder in it, so I'm not restricted to only their own products. A big factor was also cost. I got mine with a coupon at Hobby Lobby and it was very reasonable; the embossing folders (which I use more than anything) are also quite a bit less expensive that most other brands.
All in all, I've been really, really satisfied with my decision and would highly recommend the product.
Embossing plates/folders (you can use the Cuttlebug brand folders, as well as the folders and plates from Quickutz and Sizzix - lots of options!)
Spellbinders Nestabilities - thin metal dies in sets of incremental sizes, used to cut plain shapes, cut shapes with an embossed edge, or emboss a "frame" into a cardfront.
The Provocraft, Spellbinders, and Sizzix Bigz/Originals dies (not Sizzlits dies) can be used to cut through chipboard (or cereal boxes), felt, fabric, corkboard, magnet sheets, fun foam... the possibilities are endless!
Love my Cuttlebug - it's stuck with me even after both of my electric die-cutters went wonky!
I have a cuttlebug and I would recommend to any papercrafter getting a home die cut machine - doesn't have to be the bug!
You can die cut shapes and alphas, emboss and do so much with it!
If I was starting from scratch - with no machine, I would choose the Big Shot pro from sizzix. Why? Its larger and can handle the extra big dies that are now available from sizzix. These are the dies that cut and score matboard.
It is more expensive than a cuttlebug and if you don't need or want that feature than the bug, or any other less expensive machine will work fine.
I did try the Spellbinders Wizard at a convention and found it much more difficult to use, but other people swear by it - I just found the handle on the bug to be easier to use.
I've had my CB for several years. It was my first die cut machine. Actually, it was my first 'machine'of any kind for my papercrafting. I got a Big Shot for Christmas but my CB is my 'go to' machine for Spellbinder/dies and embossing folders. I guess that is because I know what sandwiches to use and is is always out on my crafting table.
Maybe, if I was just starting out, the Big Shot would be my die cut machine but I didn't know how much I would use a die cut machine. Found a CB at an online store for $35.00 plus shipping. I got just the CB because I wanted to choose embossing folders/dies I would use. (Don't have many young children to make cards for so didin't need any cutesy stuff.) You can find good deals on a Big Shot so you don't have to buy the SU package. Also, in a recent JoAnn's ad there was picture of a blue/black Big Kick that looks more like the Big Shot than the red/white one. (It might be an online purchase only, I don't know, but you can use a coupon if it isn't on sale when you order.)
I love my Cuttlebug!! I have had mine about 2 1/2 years and use it mostly for embossing folders and Nestabilities. It is so easy to use and so compact if you don't have a place to keep it out all the time. I can use almost any die and all embossing folders in it and now that they have the larger cutting plates it is even better!! With a coupon it is really cheap, beyond resonable in price.
This is one of the best purchases I have made and it cost me less then 50.00.
I love my bug. I bought it to use with embossing folders but in the last year I find I use it more for die cutting. Either use it is a great tool to have. Overall, I think the cost is not all that expensive considering how often I use it. I have other tools that just sit somewhere in my craft room.
OK I think I'm sold, it was a very hard job really LOL so I'll save up some pennies and get one. Mind you then I'll probably be back with dozens of questions.
Yes. That is correct. I bought mine in 2007 just before my daughter got married and I have used it so much, I don't know where to start to explain it to you. I wondered (this is BB, or Before Bug) why anyone would want a die cut machine. I didn't want to make any of those weird die cut shapes I saw for sale in the scrapbooking stores. Snort! Now I know better and use it every time I make something.
A blue Big Kick is available online on JoAnn's website. It costs $59.99. If you use the code PIA195 you should get free shipping until 7/14/10 because this is over the $35.00 minimum.
I think all their die cutting machines are on sale right now so you can choose among the various ones.
Love my 'Bug' but have the Big Shot also. Mine is mostly green also but I think 'Oh My Craft' had a special edition that was bluish with a flourish embellishment.
