I have searched and found some answers but I still can't get this to work. I am trying to cut chipboard (med weight) with Quikkutz dies. Does this actually work? It doesnt cut all the way through for me. The sandwich is super tight too and I am afraid I am going to break the thing. I love Quikkutz dies and I am dying to get this to work. Any suggestions? I looked at the sandwich document someone made and still it was a no go.
Hmm. I own a Cuttlebug, but no Quickutz dies. If the Quickutz *dies* are not made to cut chipboard, then the Cuttlebug won't be able to make them to. Dies have to have enough depth on their cutting blades in order to get thru the thicker material. For example, my Sizzlits won't cut chipboard.
I think only 'steel rule' made dies will cut chipboard and other materials. My Sizzix large dies (and Ellison Thick Cuts) will cut chipboard, but the smaller Sizzlits and Thin Cuts dies won't. Cuttlebug dies will also cut chipboard.
Sadly, I think QuicKutz dies, being wafer thin, are just not made to cut chipboard and any material other than paper or card.

question about the cuttlebug
hey all...I'm kinda new to the SCS forum scene but I want some expert opinions so I thought I would ask on here
I have a sizzix sidekick and also some quickcutz dies. I've been looking at the cuttlebug online....any opinions on if it is better? I love my quickcutz dies (as well as the sizzix), but sometimes I have a hard time getting my sidekick to grab the paper & die. Is the cuttlebug better? help :rolleyes:
Thanks to all of you who have responded. I really appreciate it. I had no idea there was a difference in dies ie; steel rule etc. That makes total sense. DUH!!! I don't think they will cut it, they aren't deep. Maybe I will try lightweight coasters just for fun. LOL. Thanks again for responding, I was beginning to think noboday liked me
Hi scrappychick and welcome to SCS! The main difference between the Sidekick and Cuttlebug is the size of dies and other stuff you can use in the machines.
The Sidekick is a small machine that takes Sizzix Sizzlits, Ellison Thin Cuts, QuicKutz and the small Cuttlebug 2"x2" cutting dies. Oh and you can also use the small Cuttlebug embossing folders (the ones sold in packs of 4).
The Cuttlebug is a full size machine that will take ANY die (I think!) plus the Cuttlebug A2 size embossing folders.
I have a little Sidekick myself but my larger die cut machine is the Sizzix Big Kick, not the Cuttlebug so I'm not an expert. Perhaps have a look at the Cuttlebug FAQ thread for some more info? Here's a link for you:
Help... I'm not sure if this belongs in this thread, but what am I doing wrong?? I just got the Cuttlebug last week and tried the alphabet (Red Tag). When I ran the die through (sandwiched between the 2 b's and on top of a), it cut the letters fine, but my die is now arched quite a bit (like a smile). Is it supposed to do this? Did anyone else have this problem? The smaller dies and embossing folders have not been a problem -- just the longer dies. Any help would be appreciated.
It most likely happened because you used your die face down. The Cuttlebug dies are meant to be used foam face up (so A plate, B plate, die, cardstock, B plate). It'll be fine--I have a couple that are bowed. Just run it thru a couple times correctly, and it will look much better. And it will still cut just fine.
Even though I read my CB instructions, I somehow managed to miss that information, too. :-) Someone on the Cuttlebugitis thread posted that important tidbit, so I only have 1 or 2 alpha dies that are warped. LOL
Sorry to hijack a little, my question is still on topic...
I tried to run through some thin chipboard-like paper (around the thickness of two cereal box papers glued together, it came in a package of cardstock from the craft store) with a cuttlebug die...actually two dies in different spots of the same paper. Anyway, I got a tiny couple of cracks in one of my b plates. I used the instructions the little manual gave for paper. Should I have used a different kind of stack, or just one die at a time? My b plate still works fine, but I don't want to crack it further. I have read of success with thicker chipboard than this, but how were the plates (and/or shims) stacked?

Your stack sounds fine. (Ok, it must be late, 'cause somehow that sounds bad!) Are your plates new? Are the cracks just the marks from the die? Have you tried moving your dies around, so that you're not always cutting in the same place on your B plate? Hmmm. Just brainstorming here.
