I apologize in advance.....This thread is too long for me to search thru to find if this has been answered.
I just got a Cricut and I am brand new to this...............I cut out three letters tonight and the letters are sticking to the cutting pad in a BAD way. The cardstock is coming off in layers. Any advice?

Shannon,
Regarding your paper sticking to your Cricut mat, it is normal with first time uses of a new mat. Keep running cardstock through it a couple more times and the stickiness will lessen. Keep this mat for your papers and use a newer stickier mat for your cardstocks.

Hi Shanon,

You'll get more answers on the Cricut FAQ
than here. :-) Unless you have a Bug, too! Then we can be of more help!

BIGZ dies

I have the Circut, love it, just purchased the Sizzix Orignal, the BigZ's dies do not work with that machine. thinking of maybe adding Big Kick or Cuttlebug. I have the BIG Z dies, does anyone know if they are compatable with the Cuttlebug.

LadyLarkspur 08-17-2007 08:30 PM

Hi, I'm new to this group and also new to Cuttlebug! I just got one for my BD from friends who know I'm a diehard cardmaker! I purchased a few more dies and embossing folders and have been thrilled with all BUT... WingoZingo Alphabet. I am using it as directed with CB die face up. Regular cardstock. PROBLEM is that the letters don't cut all the way thru, and rip when trying to remove them! ARGH! Any suggestions?? Thanks so much!

Hmm. I believe so. I don't own any BigZ, so I don't know for sure. Anybody else who can help out here?

I had to google Wingo Zingo, 'cuz I had never heard of it! Very cute! It's a Sizzix extended die, is that right? The Sizzix site says this:

Code:

use in the BIGkick requires Extended Spacer Platform and a pair of 13" Cutting Pads.
Are you using 13" pads? I don't own any of the extended dies, so I don't have much help to offer you. I believe earlier in this thread, someone bought another extended die, and it worked in a Bug with the extended cutting pads.

I'm sure there's someone with more experience than me who can offer some help!

Thanks for such quick advice! I continued reading much further back into the posts and found a solution. I added a cardstock shim. Presto! Now they fall off.. I don't know how I didn't realize it was a Sissix... duh! I'll try turning it over next time too!

ShariW 08-18-2007 11:44 AM

I don't know if this is the proper place to put this but here goes. I purchased some Fiskars texture plates to use in my BIGkick and couldn't get a very deep impression. So I came to SCS for some help. While reading through some of the suggestions I ran across using some kind of a rubber pad that plumbers use and then the light went on - fun foam. I have some thinner fun foam and here is what I did:

1. Open BIGkick multipurpose platform to the Tab 1
2. Placed Fiskars texture plate down
3. place paper down
4. place BIGkick silicone rubber down
5. place piece of thin fun foam down
6. finally place Impressions Pad down

Got the deepest impression yet with this sandwich. The Fiskars texture plates are thinner than the BIGkick Texturz plates so it was with fear and trepidation that I tried this same sandwich with the Texturz plate. It went through harder, but it went through and gave a nice deep impression. Woohoo here we go.

If this is not in the correct thread, please feel free to move it. Love this family of stampers!

ShariW 08-18-2007 12:01 PM

I was so excited that I didn't try this method on SU paper. Needed to add a doubled piece of card stock and then the image came out beautifully. So after you put the fun foam in, fold a piece of card stock place it on top and then the last piece and run it through. Two things happen, you get a nice impressed image and your card is folded nice a crisp! :D

Thanks, ShariW! This is exactly the right thread!

Need cuttlebug help

Amy:
Thanks so much for your recipes. I just used some dies and want to be sure that it's ok for an impression or slight cut to come thru on the B plate. Is there a way to prevent this or is this ok. Thanks for your help.

Actually, credit for all the sandwich stack information goes to Cat! She is awesome!

You will have marks on your cutting plates, no help for that. It's just the nature of die cut machines. Embossing doesn't leave marks, though.

Karenq63 08-20-2007 07:09 AM

FYI - I was in my Joann's on Saturday (8/18/07) and they NO LONGER have the Cuttlebug in store. The girl I talked to said they got a message & had to have them packed up & ready to ship back in about 2 hours. And they will *not* be carrying them anymore in my store. Not sure if this is the same for all Joann Stores.

Bummer. But Hobby Lobby DOES have a 40% off coupon this week - and they have the Cuttlebug & LOTS of Embossing folders!

mugsy1 08-20-2007 08:54 AM

i wonder why that Joannes (or all of them?).....wont carry the Bug anymore? cant be for lack of interest.....

Starved4Creativity 08-20-2007 10:06 AM

Hi All! In reference to Joanns, mine isn't carrying it anymore either (Richmond Virginia) and the manager told me the same thing - got a message from corporate to pack it all up and send it back. I went to a Super Joanns in New Jersey when I was visiting family, and they had everything and then some. The lady there told me her understanding was that only the Super Joanns and On-line would be carrying them now. I noticed when I got back that Joanns on-line had them on sale and also had free shipping on everything related to the Cuttlebug. I don't think the free shipping is going on right now, but keep an eye out for it. I ordered a few folders when it was and it saved me over $20 and then gas too :-)

amysings 08-20-2007 10:11 AM

Hmm. That's interesting. I stopped looking at my Joann's months ago, because they were higher priced than Mike's, and they also had a terrible selection! My Joann's never even got the new stuff last spring!

I'll have to look around next time I'm in.

gailwoo 08-20-2007 01:13 PM

my J's told me that only super J's will carry the cuttlebug,
too bad, because we do not have walmart or michaels in the area,
and our local beverly's also do not carry. I have only been able to get it online,
which is better than nowhere,

LadyLarkspur 08-20-2007 09:02 PM

must be nice

Must be nice to have some variety! We only have Michael's in Mississauga. I'm not even sure if Loomis and Toles carried any Provo-Craft stuff, but regardless, they closed the Mississauga store! What's even worse with Michael's is the slap in the face with the US/CDN pricing on every item!!! Something that is $24.99CDN is $16.00US!!!! The dollar is soooooooo close yet we're getting gouged!!! I've heard of people insisting they want to pay the US price with US dollars even! LOL, not that they succeeded! I head over to Buffalo and shop when I can!!

rubyanne28 08-21-2007 04:47 AM

My Joann's has stopped carrying Cuttlebug/Cricuit merchandise, too. Hobby Lobby and Michaels are just starting to sell them and their selection is limited. Guess this means a road trip to Joann's online.

Savagetwin 08-21-2007 10:00 AM

Joann disappointment

I think we should all email joann and let them know what we want. I too was disappointed when I went to Joann's big sale and was very disappointed. I live in the Bronx and habe to travel a great distance to Joann's. I definitely emailed my displeasure and referred them to this site for confirmation of the popularity of the cuttlebug. A few more emails might make a statement!;)

Joann.com sale on Embossing Folders

I don't ever get to go to the store... it's 40 miles away and over a big mountain from me.

But I went online and got the Cuttlebug Embossing Folders on sale this weekend.... After tax and shipping they probably cost me $5 each but that's still less than the store before tax.

Really fast shippers too.

Janie Jane 08-27-2007 04:31 PM

I read somewhere on this site that you could use a Cuttlebug folder with a Sizzix machine. Can anyone tell me how this is done. I've wanted to try this, but I can't get the two to work together. Any help is appreciated!

amysings 08-27-2007 05:34 PM

I don't own a Sizzix, but have been told that you need the adapter for Sizzlets. Hope this helps!

JohnsPrincess 09-05-2007 11:53 AM

I just got a Cuttlebug over the weekend! I had some 50% off coupons that had been sent to me and then we got 2 Sunday papers...and 2 more 50% off coupons. So I got a Cuttlebug for 40$ and a few die cuts for it. I've been looking at cards online and have seen people useing the embossing folders and love how they look so now I need some of those too. Lol.

conniemacko 09-05-2007 01:16 PM

Have fun with your new bug!

Yes Jane, you can use the Cuttlebug folders with the Sizzix...mine is the older red one, but Amy is right, you will need the Sizzix System Converter. I know, because I have done it.

But, the bug is so cute and so much lighter that I broke down last week and got one with my 40% off coupon!!! I love it. I also got a bunch of the Cuttlebug and Sizzix embossing folders from Creative Xpress for a great price. I got the following bug embossing folders for $2.99 ea.: Friend, (I already have Traffic Jam, Spots & Dots, Happy Birthday & D'vine Swirl) Mosiac Texture, Mesh Texture, Tiny Bubbles, Stylized Flowers and Bow Frame; Fancy Corners (4) for $3.59 and a bunch of the Sizzix folders. I'm having a ball!

Sabrinasmom 09-08-2007 11:42 AM

I scanned through the thread because I thought this was asked and answered already, but couldn't find an answer. Can you use Sizzix stuff in the 'bug? If so, how...do you need to get an adapter, or something? Thank you!

amysings 09-08-2007 12:12 PM

Yes, you can use Sizzix stuff in the Bug. You don't need any special adapters, but be careful--the Sizzix dies have a tendency to break the Bug plates more often than other dies do.

I use Sizzix all the time in my Bug, and haven't broken a plate since about February, but I want you to be warned. :-) If your Bug is pretty new, use some embossing folders and CB dies first. These will "break in" your Bug, and prepare it better for the thick Sizzix dies.

DebVRN 09-08-2007 12:13 PM

Hi, Jenn,
Yes, you can use sizzix diecuts, etc in the bug. The instruction booklet that comes with the bug tells you what plate to use with numerous other diecut machines dies in the bug. I love my bug and I have a sizzix too. I use the bigger sizzix diecuts in my sizzix though. Debbie

ShariW 09-08-2007 03:48 PM

Got a question - I have a BIGkick and I am using c'bug dies. I used one of the small dies that has an intricate pattern and I had to punch out all the little holes and some of the holes didn't punch all the way through. Anyone else have this problem and if so how does one fix it! Thanks!

catt871 09-11-2007 04:59 AM

I just got some Fiskars texture plates and want to use them in my Bug. The recipe I found on here says Plate A, Texture plate, cardstock, thin rubber sheet (gray) then plate C.

WHAT else can I use for the thin rubber sheet, or where can I get one??? Also, I read above that sizzix dies break the Bug plates...is this also true of Fiskars plates?? I don't want to hurt my Bug!!!! :D

I've never had a plate break when using Sizzix dies. Now, I have heard of the Bug itself breaking when using the Fiskars plates - I can't remember who had this happen to them, but it happened to them TWICE (two different bugs). I have some of the Fiskars plates but I don't think I want to try them. I'm scared that my Bug will break.
