I only have CB alphas--but they cut cork, thin magnet, felt, and thick chipboard. They cut like the large Sizzix dies, but are only the size of Sizzlets! Yay!
Uh Oh, now I have a reason to go ask for my neighbor's Michael's ad.....

I love the CB alphas. However, I'm trying to be content with the two I have! I wonder how long that will last???
The Sizzlets alphas, retailed for $119 but you could get them 50% off on sale all the time. They come in a storage case and include the numbers, upper, and lower. $47 something at www.creativexpress.com is a great price. The Sizzix (larger) alphabets were much more expensive. I never owned a real Sizzix, only the Sidekick, which Sizzlets were designed for.
I'm waaay late coming into this thread and I'm sorry if this has already been covered, but I just bought my CB today w/ Mike's 50% off coupon and I'm soooo excited! I love the design and the dies are much easier to store!
Here's my question I have a Sizzix machine that I'm retiring (really didn't like it) and I have a couple of dies for it. I'm sure they can be used on my new CB cuz everyone is saying so. But I can't seem to get them to work. I've sandwiched them between the B spacers like the manual instructs, but it seems like such a tight fit that I don't want to continue them thru. It really feels like something will break if I do. My die is not the thin wafer dies, but the regular rubber and plastic ones Sizzix puts out.
OK You all have mentioned something called a BISK. Please explain. What is it and where can I get one if it turns out to be something I need. (usually turns out that I want it after seeing things you guys do with it)

Ah, well I have the Typewriter one. They are longer, dies and more narrow. Each of mine has 7 letters on it for Upper. The lower has a bunch of them per die because the upper letters come inside a tag shape and the lower don't. Then the numbers also have tag shapes and there are a bunch more tag shapes that each have a snowflake, flower, etc. inside the tag.
Vonnie, I don't have a CB but I have spent way too much of this day on this site reading various threads and I think I would be very careful -- some people have had problems with their CB's when they tried to "force" something in that was too thick. So don't do it until you hear from someone who has had it work OK. Just my 2 cents worth.
OK
Yesterday or the day before (many pages of posts before) I posed a question as to what you could do to get the images from the smaller embossing folders to go anywhere on the page. The way they are made, you are rather limited to the lower portion of the page if you want to emboss directly on the page.
Well, I finally bit the dust. While I was at Archivers today I found "Sizix Sidekick Simple Imprssions sidekick Folders" and my little brain (getting littler and littler as I sit at the computer) said maybe this will work. So I came home and cut one of my little folders in half, mounted the two sides in the Sizzix folder then ran it through the Cuttlebug (using a c plate and nothing on top). By changing where the image was placed in the folder, I could emboss pretty much anywhere on the card.
Now I am going to go look up sizzix and figure out how this is really supposed to be used.......
anyway, this gives you a little variety.
I do not currently have ANY of the die cut machines so please excuse my question if it sounds stupid!! I have been looking at the alphabet sets. Do you cut the entire alphabet with each cut or can you choose the letter you want? I also noticed that each style of alphabet seems to come in two different forms: Cuttlebug alphabet and Cuttlebug alphabet die sets. What is/is there a difference? Thanks for your help!

grrr.........I just cracked a B plate....it was getting cut up bad, though.
All of you who got alphas.....open them up & check the dies. I just opened my Hippie Chick alpha and I am missing a plate / have 2 of one of the plates. I know this happened to someone else....I can't remember which alpha they had.

I think they are one in the same.
And, if you want to just cut one letter, even though there are 7 on the die, you would just cut paper a little larger than the image you want to die cut. That way you waste less paper.
I am a new CB owner and I have a question- and it may have been answered already within this post -I have read quite a few pages of it but not all of them - when you cut the dies - the top B plate is suppose to get the impressions of the die - correct??? I am hoping yes - and when I get an embossing plate would I use the unmarked B plate on top or it doesn't matter if I use the one that has the markings on it?
I'm one of the assimilated (sp?) ones ... jumping wholeheartedly on the CB wagon ... so as I understand it ... the BISK can work in the Cuttlebug ... will I need any additional pads? Will the BISK enable me to emboss with the Fiskars Texture Plates and brass stencils ?

Yes, there will be a cut into your B plate. That's normal. And no, it doesn't matter if you use the marked up plate for embossing. :-)

That was me...it was the Fancy Pants Alphabet. I took it back to Michael's and the one they gave me in exchange is fine.
Wasting coupons is like throwing money away, right?
I'm so bummed! I finally decided to go use a Michaels coupon on a CB alpha. (you girls talked me into it!) Well, the store closed early tonight! They closed at 6pm instead of 9pm! Wahhhhhh!
Oh well, I guess that's a sign that maybe I should save my pennies and use what I have here at home, right?
I have been playing with my Big Shot. I have been cuting and embossing everything in sight! I have two cut-n-emboss dies and they are snowflakes.
I am in the process of making an embossed and stamped card. Probably won't get in done until later in the week I start back to work tomorrow! Oh! I want more cut-n-emboss dies!!!
Well, I'm another one that got a CB today with my Michaels coupon. I've been playing with it a little and I love it. Especially the embossing folder. Can't wait for more coupons so I can get another die for it. I'm so glad I popped in here a couple of days ago and read up on all the info here about it and using the coupon. Sure glad I joined this list last month.
Vonnie, have you tried using the "C" plate instead of the "A" plate? I thought that's what it was meant for.
Betsy, Yes, I tried the C plate, it isn't thick enough. I tried every combo I could think of. But someone mentioned just adding some chipboard to beef up the C plate and I think that will do the trick Thanks for the help
My guess is that she bought these from Century Photo...you can see the embossing folders are sticking out a bit at the top. THe ones at CP are sized to hold 4 1/4 x 5 1/4:

If I try to put a Sizzix Original die through, between 2 B plates, and it is still very tight, then I take away the top B plate and replace it with 6 pieces of cereal box (use less if needed) and then they go through just fine.
My sis came to visit me yesterday, I haven't seen her since I bought my Big Shot. Here I am all excited to show her this great new toy, so I start pulling out all stuff I have bought for the BS, and she starts looking at me like I have lost my mind.
OMG, I think I have!!! :O
Now mind you until Dec.4 when my BS was delivered I never owned a die-cut machine so didn't have any dies, ect.
I now own
Big Shot with multi-platform, crease pad and extra cutting plates
BSIK and BSI set 2
Wizard embossing kit
4 BS thick cuts
6 BS thin cuts
2 BS window cuts
16 Sizzix original dies
3 sizzlet die sets
the Sizzix windows set
5 cuttlebug die sets
4 BS ezy emboss
12 cuttlebug emboss folders (7 A2s & 5 others)
7 sizzix simple impressions
1 cuttlebug alphabet
Do you have any idea how much that looks like when it is ALL out on the counter :O When you are buying a few things here and a few things there you don't realize how much you actually have.
I just realized I am out of control !!!
I think my new year resolution better be to get help for this addiction.
Oh the upside I didn't pay full price for anything, Thank goodness for coupons, big sales, great online stores and eBay.
The funniest part, after playing with the machine all afternoon, guess what Sis is buying? I am now officially an enabler lol.

This is why we all have a multitude of iris carts. They can hide a world of sin and DH's never know. My DH told me last night that I crossed the line from hobby to obsessed some time ago.
But then he was totally *wowed* when I showed him what the Cricut and Cuttlebug do. He was wishing they had a man power tool to cut wood like that!
