Default Cricut vs. Make The Cut and SCAL

I've read online that Cricut won a lawsuit against Make the Cut and will next pursue SCAL. What does that mean to those who have either program?
The programs will still cut on the Cricut machines. I don't understand why everyone is so upset about this. Could someone please explain what happened? I appreciate your help.

I think that for Make the Cut, the old ones someone had before the lawsuit will work with the cricut, but if you buy a new one now, it wont work with a cricut. I could be wrong tho

I have SCAL and love it. I didn't dig too deep into it all but the gist of what I got was that Provo will want to have an update to SCAL which will cause it to not work with Cricut anymore. That would upset me if I couldn't use SCAL anymore, which I use most of the time over cartridges.

I don't know what will happen with SCAL, but until it all sorted out, I won't be updated either my Cricut or SCAL because both work wonderfully right now.

Here is another thread here all about it.

Provo Craft sues Make the Cut & Sure Cuts a Lot by Barbara Jay at Splitcoaststampers

Just to clarify, PC did not WIN, there was a settlement.

I think people are mad for a variety of reasons...feeling bullied by PC, feeling angry for the owners/makers of MTC, feeling like they should have the ability to update but now you can't unless you want to loose the functionality...to just name a few.
