Default Cricut - SCAL

I recently purchased a Cricut Expression with the intent of using it with SCAL. I wanted to play around with the machine before investing in the SCAL software... so that I would know how to use the features on the machine before investing more money.

Now that I'm ready to invest in SCAL... I'm just now reading up on the software and am finding information that leads me to believe I won't be able to buy the SCAL software for the cricut.

Is this really the case?!?! How did I miss this important fact. I'm hoping I didn't invest in the wrong machine since I never wanted to get sucked into buying cartridges with images that I'll never use. I primarily want to use the cricut to make 3D projects (boxes) and am now thinking I won't be able to use the machine without buying cartridges.

Someone tell me it isn't so - please! :(

If you can return the Cricut Expression you purchased, I would do that. SCAL, as well as Make-the-Cut both third party software programs, were sued by ProvoCraft and are no longer sold with cut to Cricut capabilities. I will be upfront with you and tell you that I own Make-the-Cut and love the software. I purchased it when you could still cut to a Cricut Expression, which I also own, but don't love. I think I see a Silhouette Cameo in my future. The new Silhouette will cut 12 x 12 and will cut with MTC...I don't know about SCAL, but you could visit their forum and see if it would work with their software as well. Also, there is a new cutter out, introduced by Make-the-Cut. It is called the Zing and will cut heavier materials than what the Silhouette Cameo will, but is also pricier. Pre-orders of this machine are currently being shipped with another shipment from overseas due in a few weeks. The Zing sounds like it will be a great machine and will currently only work with MTC...no cartridges and like a "kazillion" free cutting files out there! The only problem with the Zing for me is the price...$400 for something for me to "play" with seems a bit much. Waiting for a great price on the Silhouette Cameo!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

OMG - what have I done.... ARRRGGG. I always seem to be a day late and a dollor short. Unfortunately, I can't return the cricut at this point.

I guess I'll just have to sell it on the second hand market. I'll look into the new machines you talk about... but for now.. I'm kicking myself in the butt!! ;)

Thanks for the bad news

The Start of Something You. | Sizzix.com

SCAL is going to be available for it - might be already.

Lots of "Black Everyday" sales coming.
