Default Copics: How To Decide??

I just received a set of 24 Copic Sketch (24A from Ellen Hutson's store) for my birthday yesterday and can tell I really need more colours. How on earth do I decide what colours to buy?????

You want to get colors that form natural blending families. Check out Marianne's blog. She's the Copic Product Specialist. She has amazing advice.

I think you'll find this entry especially helpful:

Enjoy your new markers, they're amazing!

I ditto Gale. Also, consider what you need for flesh, sky, shadowing. The grays come in handy for darkening a color when you don't have the precise darker color. Personally, I want lots of greens and browns, because I like to do botanical stuff. But, well, I'm just a newbie at it too...

I got the chart and I update it with the colors I have. You can see the pattern once you get that filled out. I started with Ciao but now i switched to sketch as i start getting new one's to use with the spray cans.

When I got my first set of 12 Copics, I used them for about two weeks and made a note as I colored what colors I felt were missing. Then I bought about six more. I emailed the Copic people and asked for a printed color chart and they sent me one in the mail. Now when I order online, I am sure of what the color really looks like. I will probably use the 18 I have for a couple of months and then ask for some more at Christmas. By then I will know what I need to add. I am usually a "get them all girl" but I am being careful because they are so pricey. Definitely worth the investment, though!

Just order the 3 sets you didn't get from Ellen the first time - then you will have her Gotta Have It All selection. It will be a good starting point for you.

I have started buying a few, but am making a list for what I want for my birthday! I think I'm really going to like them!

I started my collection based on what I was going to be stamping with most at that time, so I went for the colors I knew I'd be using a lot on those particular images. So if you have a set you're always reaching for or one you just ordered that you're excited about, get colors that work for it. And/or start with your favorite colors the ones you use on your cards the most.

and then what everyone else has said above LOL! HTH!

I bought three of each color group I thought I would use most, plus some neutrals. I have a chart of my own with all the numbers of the markers on it. The chart is blank and I filled in the squares with the colors I have (I swatched it myself). The color chart they have is good, but my actual markers look different than the glossy chart they sent me. I have a vendor who sells CIAO's for $2.99 each. I may go to sketches some day... but for now, I'm happy with the CIAO's.
Little by little I fill in the chart. I am a big brown/green/blue/yellow user... plus neutrals... I love them all though!
Have fun.
