Question Copic markers

Can someone tell me more about copic markers? How are they different from ink markers (i.e. Stampin up markers)? Do they give you a different look:confused:

If you use the search facility that is right handside of the screen just above the list of threads and search on Copic you will find loads of discussion on Copics, how to use them, where to get them, tips and tricks etc

Copics are made with alcohol inks. You cannot color onto a stamp and then stamp. they are made to draw with or to color in designs. They will also color ribbon, paper and other embellishments. They bleed through to the other side of the paper.

They are very expensive, but if you practive, you can achieve some very very nice shading and blending effects.

You can learn more by reading these two blogs

www.ellenhutson.typepad.com and
www.debbiedesigns.typepad.com

If you just look around those blogs there is a lot of info on how to use the markers.

SU markers are water based and generally don't blend as well. However, a lot of folks have achieved some very nice blending and shading with the SU markers. Again, it is a preference thing.

It depends on what you are comfortable using. I am fine with the brush tip so I have the Sketch style markers...they sketch also have the largest variety of colors. I know many people use the Ciao style which I think may also be less expensive, but no matter which you choose they are all high quality and color the same. You can also buy replacement nibs if you decide that some colors you need a finer tip more often.

Which Copics to get? Original, Sketch or Ciao?
Differences of Copic vs. water-based markers

I like using the Copic Original when working with A Muse images, due to the ability to get into very small/tight spots with the bullet tip.

Copics cannot be used direct to rubber, in the same way that water-based can.

In case you don't happen upon the other COPIC thread where I posted this info...

==========================

Just a quick note on replacing nibs.

You can only replace the Super Brush nib with a Super Brush nib on both the Sketch and Ciao markers. This is the official word from the head guy at Copic. You may replace the chisel tip with the same medium broad tip or a medium round nib. The medium round nib is similar to the nib on the Original marker, however, it is more than double the width of the Standard Fine nib (that is on the Original marker).

The Super Brush nib intended for manga/anime and fine artists. I would encourage you to find the best nib for your needs and abilities and choose your COPICS accordingly.

I know there has also been some questions on the COPIC Alcohol Maker Pads which are marketed as bleed proof. It is true, this paper does not *bleed* through to the surface below but it does SHOW through the paper you are working on. This paper is lightweight (almost like tracing paper).

HTH,
Linda
