Default Finally got a Big Kick

The main reason being that I love the Nestabilities, and want to start using them. (haven't received them yet from ucut@home:( ) and I've been doing some reading about using them in the BK. Some sources say I have to have a spacer plate to cut, then a tan embossing mat to emboss. What are these, and are there DIY substitutions I can use? I have the multipurpose platform, I thought that would be all I needed.

Katarina - I think that the multipurpose platform takes the place of the spacer plate, but you still need something squishy for the embossing mat. I bought an "Impressionz" kit when I got my kick, but it runs about $20 (unless you use a coupon). It includes a squishy black mat, a rigid black plastic cover and 3 double-sided impression plates. Unfortunately, you can't get just the squishy black mat and cover.

I don't have nestabilities to try it with, but that kit works quite fine with the Fiskars texture plates and I imagine it would work with nestabilities - but unless you want the plates that come with it, the tan embossing mat would cost less. You would just use the sandwich of Multipurpose platform tab 1, acrylic cutting mat, nestie, paper, embossing mat, acrylic cutting mat.

Should add - you could try using a piece of fun foam for an embossing mat, but the thickness isn't quite right. You might have to add a couple of chipboard shims.
