What color black would I use to color Santa's boots or a Penguin?

i use greys so i can get some high's and low's... W3, W5, W7, then W9.

I do the same thing, only I use C5, C7, C9.

yes, layer the grays. Start with the lowest value and then work your way up to a 7 or 9 layering as you go. :-)

I always teach that black isn't just black...

I've got an example of that when coloring Santa's boots in this card...

Santa's Lap

I used C01/C03/C05 a touch of C07 and E53/E55 to warm it up...(yes, I like to mix my warm and cool colors) LOL

I would think with a Penguin that you could do grays and maybe a lavender or a light blue as the highlighting???

If you look for Suzanne Dean on youtube, you'll find video tutorials on coloring black with the gray Copics to maximize shading.
