My DD got several scrapbook kits for Christmas, and I realized she probably needs to have her own set of tools to use, so that we aren't fighting over them  . Anyhow, I'm having trouble deciding what adhesive to get her. What would you all recommend? I'm leaning towards double sided tape, so she can see exactly how much she is applying etc. She does pretty good with my supplies, but I really want her to be able to do it w/o supervision, if she would like to.
I STARTED SCRAPBOOKING AND CARDMAKING WITH SCHOOL GLUE STICKS UNTIL I FOUND ALL THESE OTHER ADHESIVES. IT WORKS REALLY WELL WITH RIBBON AND CARDSTOCK. ITS SAFE AND MESS FREE!
When my daughter started scrapbooking, I bought her the Duck adhesive (red) at Walmart and Joann's. It is relatively inexpensive and you can buy 4 packs at Joann's @ 40% off all the time. It holds well and is less messy than glue sticks.
I think the double sided tape is a VERY good idea. And, if you teach her to just put a one inch square in each corner of a say 4x5 piece of paper, it will last a long time.
I learned on another thread that I was using WAY too much tape by putting it along all four sides.
I got my boys Duck adhesive in a four pack from Joann's for Christmas. They love it, and they can't use too much unless they try to. They were making a mess of my stuff. I also got my 8 year old a zyron machine. He loves it! He has been making stickers all day!
Thanks for all the great ideas. I'm getting ready for my busy season for my business, and I'm not going to be around as much for guidance. I think I'll do the double sided tape for the next few months. Then work her towards the Duck adhesive when I can be around a little more and watch how she does with it.
My daughter is 9 and I buy her the generic packs of mono adhesive for $1. I also let her use the fiskars photo tabs since you only use 1 at a time and peel off the back. That way she is not using too much. She loves the generic mono adhesive though and she uses it sparingly because she knows she has to make it last. good luck

I haven't seen this kind of mono.....where do you find it at?
When I was my son's Cub Scout Den Leader, I bought Tombo's for the boys to use on our projects. No icky glue messes and it was some what controlled. The boys loved using them and their parents thought I was brilliant and amazed by them. These boys were 7-8-9 years old. I also bought glue dots for some projects.
At home, I let my boys use my tools and adhesives. Even my ATG. I am always with them and supervise, so we have not had any negative issues.
Have fun.
