I choose mine by how much I think I'll use it. I look for variety on the images. With the alphabets, I only use those mostly for my classroom and my occasional scrapbooking.
I bought Mickey Font on clearance at wal-mart, and have used it the most. My first purchase was doodlecharms, but haven't used that much. I have Paper dolls, which is really cute, but intricate with the detailing. I like the jasmine font, so I have that. I bought Christmas cheer for my Christmas cards. Haven't broke that one out yet.
I think a good shape cartridge for starters is Doodlecharms. It has tons of shapes and images and is super cute. My first font cartridge was Learning Curve and I've really enjoyed it too. Congrats on your new cricut!

It depends on what you'll want to do first! I'm using mine mostly for titles and accent shapes. I like simple so I bought the Opposites Attract cartridge on sale the other day.
I also plan on getting the Sans Serif, Base Camp, Accent Essentials, and Street Sign Solutions
If you want some shapes I would recommend Doodlecharms, Stretch your imagination or Paper dolls. Paper dolls is more than just dolls. It's got TONS of extras that are WONDERFUL. Everyone should have that one in their collection at some point. I have loved doodlecharms too. For a font cart I would get the most versitle. And in my opinion that would be Opposites attract. With that one you get two different cursive fonts and a nice bold block font. Though, I have 26 carts now (and recently sold 6) so I am not the best at just choosing 1. Those are my thoughts though. I also love Mickey Font, Pooh Font, and Stone script. Good luck with your decision!!
I really enjoy Storybook and Stretch Your Imagination. I've only had my Cricut since June ... and I have about 15 cartridges now, so I guess I sort of love them all
We're in the middle of switching my kids' room and the office around, so I haven't gotten to play in a while. Soon!
Thanks for the heads up on the offer for 2 free cartridges. I went to the site and printed the form out and will get it sent out in the mail today. My dd will be student teaching in January and will love those carts!
I've had my Cricut for over 2 years and I only own 5 carts (well, 6 if you count Jasmine that I sold). For the most part, it's not really my style but I love and use Base Camp, Opposites Attract, Teardrop, and Stamped and now the new Noel cart.
I love paper dolls! It has something for most holidays. I don't cut the dolls very often just all the other stuff. I think it's interesting that several people like opposites attract. I don't like it at all.

Plantin Schoolbook is my favorite cartridge.. the Accent Essentials cartridge has a shape like the SU Top Note Bigz die, so I would say that would be a good one. Doodletype is a good one too.. I got that one with my first cricut that I bought.. I used it the other night for the lettes and numbers I used on an Advent Calendar I made. Congrats on getting your new Cricut.

I love the disney ones. I am going to make some wall hangings for my little "princess". My sister in law used the christmas cheer to cut all her cards out. I also like the 50 states great for school projects. Have used that a lot. Have cars and sesame street on a wishlist also accent essentials
I love the tear drop font the best. I use celebrations, doodlecharms and I love the Christmas cheer. I use mine for scrapbooking and cardmaking. Good luck deciding...it is hard and totally adicting!
Hi!
I love most of the Classic Disney stuff, so I have Happily Ever After, Dreams Come True, Pooh & Friends, Mickey & Friends, Pooh Font and Mickey Font. I actually use those two font cartridges a lot, they make really great large letter too.
I've the original Cricut for a year, and DH ordered me the Expression yesterday for Christmas. I use the little one so much, he now sees why he should have bought the big one last year instead.
Other cartridges that I have and use a lot are Cricut Keystone (came in the orignial cricut promotional package), it's got a really good alphabet and numbers, not much else though. George & Basic Shapes came with the machine too.
Over the past year, taking advantage of sales, I've added: Mini Monograms, Beyond Birthdays, Joys of the Season, Doodle Charms, Animal Kingdom, Alphalicious, Opposites Attract, Cursive 101, New Arrival, Paper Doll Dress Up, and Fabulous Finds. Last year's promotional from Cricut allowed me to get Tags, Bags, Boxes and More and Paper Pups for free.
Since the E has been ordered and paid for I'll be sending off for this year's current promotional too. Printing 101 and My Community.
And I do have a wish list, although small and I will be waiting for the next sale to shop. The cartridges I'd like to add are Storybook, Sports Mania, Wild Cards and Tinkerbell.
My only suggestion is to purchase cartridges that fit your style and remember a lot of cartridges offer a lot more than the back shows. Paperdolls has a lot more shapes than you'd expect. The same with the Disney Princess cartridges, the characters are great, but the extras are so worth having.
