Well, I have bought Tack It Over and Over, bought or ordered acrylic blocks, and now have made up the envelopes I want to use for storing my soon-to-be-unmounted sets. Sometimes I hate hogging things to myself, and since there is tons of discussion about this subject I will share with you what I am doing...This written information is also included on the last template page.
Envelopes for unmounted stamp sets
This is the envelope I have decided to use for my stamp sets that I am in the process of unmounting. These three pictures are of the "templates" that I am using for each item. Please note that I unmount my stamps and keep the foam on them, or use the cling foam. If you use only the rubber, you will have some extra space in the envelopes, and could use Template B for two cards of rubber as well.
Template A is for the unmounted stamps themselves. This is made of cardstock, lightweight posterboard could also be used. It is 4 5/8 by 6 1/8 inches. I am putting the stamp set name at the top, then stamping all the stamps in a set on this card, allowing a bit of space between them. Then I take them to the teacher�s store and have them laminated with heavy laminating film, cut them apart and place the unmounted stamps on their corresponding image.
Template B is for an envelope to hold stamp sets that all fit on one card. I score a sheet of cardstock as follows:
3/4 and 1 inch in from each long edge
4 and 4 1/4 inches in from one short edge
1 1/2 and 1 3/4 inches in from the other short edge
I place the name and other appropriate information about the set on the card in the places shown. Then I stamp the set on the front of the envelope. Here I will stamp in color, and two step stamps are done as two steps. Then I cut the shaded corners out and fold and glue the envelopes. Place the card with the stamps inside. There is plenty of room for it to fit.
Template C is for an envelope to hold stamp sets that require two cards to handle the size or number of stamps. This envelope is made in the same way, except scoring is like this:
1/2 and 1 inch in from each long edge
3 3/4 and 4 1/4 inch in from one short edge
1 1/4 and 1 3/4 inch in from the other short edge
I will be stamping the images on both front and back on this envelope. Again, cut the shaded corners, fold and glue. Two cards of rubber fit in this envelope.
The finished size of the envelopes is 6 1/2 by 5 inches, and either 1/4 or 1/2 inch thick. I am storing them in the drawers in my stamping cabinet but you could use a box (or boxes) as well, sorting them by subject.
Remember when you want to open a pdf file, you right click on it, choose save target as, then select where you want it saved. You can open it from there.
These sound really neat. I have been using empty cd cases that I buy at walmart and break out the part where the actual cd sits. then I place the stickers that come with stampin up on the outside of the cd case and the label on the part of the cd where you can read what is on them. they are all stored in a tower cd holder where I can always see them. Good luck with your envelopes.
What's the easiest way to unmount stamps that have already been mounted?
Do you have to use Take it over & over on the stamps even if they haven't been mounted yet?
To unmount stamps: Zap them in the microwave for a few seconds. I have found that 10 seconds is good for smaller stamps, 40 seconds for big backgrounds...use your judgment, you can always do a few more seconds...but don't do it till the rubber gets hot! The wood gets slightly warm and the glue is softened. Then they peel nicely.
They will be sticky but put Tack It Over and Over on the sticky foam. Brush on a thin coat then let it sit to dry. It does need to be thin. When dry, touch the stamp to your skin a couple of times to reduce the tackiness and then store.
Simple, but time-consuming. I do a few sets at a time.
wow you go to a lot of work, i must be very lazy, ive just been stamping on a piece of paper, and adding them to baggies, though they dont stamp up well, but they are very easy to store, i might just try to do this myself, i just dont want to take my stamps off the wood, thanks for the idea, very cool stamperjan
What I do with my new SU stamps is adhere the clear image onto the sticky side of the stamp. Then I am able to cut the stamp and the image at the same time. I use tack it over and over on the clear image. I like this because it allows me to use the um stamp system while still seeing the image.

Cool! Do you have a picture of a completed envelope? I would love to see one...
Also, what do you attach the stamps to inside the envelope? Or do you just put them in the envelope?
I'm feeling pretty stupid just now, but why would I want to unmount stamps?
I believe some people do this to save on storage space. I personally prefer mounted b/c I feel it is a pain to slap it on a acrylic block and line it up each time I want to use it. But I quess it's just a personal prefrence.

I like the unmounted because you can see where your stamping so much easier. I index my stamps( stamp on the cling) so no mater where I put it on the block you can see right where to put it on the paper.;)
