Resist techniques - please help

Hi, this is probably a very silly question, but when you do the resist techniques acrylic or embossing what type of inkpad do you use? Alcohol? I have tried the embossing & the acrylic paint one and on both my "resist" isn't resisting if you know what I meen :(

It's not a silly question! When you emboss, you need to use either Versamark or a pigment ink - both of those will hold the powder until you melt it with your heat gun. Then when you rub a dye based ink over it it will resist. I wouldn't use alcohol inks for the second step. Just distress ink or other dye ink. When you use paint, let it dry all the way, rub distress or dye ink over it but then wipe the painted areas with a wet cloth - it will pop right out.

When I was helping with Rubbernecker up at Puyallup last year (or 2) you actually DO/CAN use Alcohol Ink...

Stamp the image with Embossing Ink
Sprinkle with embossing powder
Heat til melted
Cover emobssed image with alcohol ink per directions
Take a piece of copy paper and place it over the stamped/emobssed image.

Using a iron (preferably one without steam holes) "iron" the copy paper. You will see a grease stain (lol) show up on the copy paper. quickly yet carefully lift the copy paper off of your inked CS and viola! Now, if it sticks slightly due to cooling quickly just stick your iron on it again....

If you are using a LARGE image you will need to use clean pieces of paper to get all the embossing powder off, tip your card sideways and if it's not lookin like stuff is stuck to it you are done!

I've also found that glossy paper works better (for me) than regular cardstock. The ink (i used regular ink) really blended well with glossy.

Pigment inks are stickier inks that sit on top of your paper, take longer to dry, and hold the embossing powder so you can heat set. Examples of pigment inks are VersaMark, Ranger Perfect Medium, SU Craft ink, Brilliance, and Colorbox makes several pigment inks. Dye inks are water based inks that soak into the paper more and will resist the heated embossing powder. I would not use a waterproof, permanent, alcohol or a solvent ink (StazOn) for this technique. Dye ink examples are Ranger Distress inks or SU Classic ink.

I agree that glossy will give you a sharper resist. Also using a contrasting embossing powder and dye inks will also make the resist stand out more - i.e., clear/white embossing powder with medium or darker dye inks right around the embossed image.

I have used alcohol inks on top of a embossed image in white and while it does not 'resist' it does show the image as being lighter than the background depending on how dark of an alcohol ink you use.

GREAT ideas and thanks for video link !! I'm gonna to try it with the white acrylic paint...have tried versarmark but didn't get the really pronounced "pop" look I wanted...??? what I might have done wrong...didn't have good luck with the versarmark and chalks either for some reason ??? Probably just ME ..hahaha...
