Default Paint can template

I did a search but couldn't find anything on instructions for the paint cans. Is there a template for this? Just curious how they are covered, etc! Any info will be much appreciated!
thanks,
Sharon

Sharon~

I tried to attach Marcia Howell's instructions for making a paint can, however, the file is apparently too big. So what I've done is attach a link to another thread (same topic) where the file has been uploaded. If you have any questions let me know.

Smile Paint can template & ideas

HI! I am still new at the paint cans and wanted to know:

What size and where do you get your paint cans from?

I couldn't open the Adobe Acrobat file that the link points to because it says it does not begin with a pdf file?????

I want to do a paint can gift for a housewarming gift but amnot sure what items to put in it. Anyone have any ideas for a poem or especially for the items inside. LIke what would be helpful when moving into a new home? I have a few ideas but need more.

ANY help is appreciated! THANKS, Ivonne

Ivonne~~

I purchase my paint cans at Menards. (I have only done one small and one large one so far! ) I am sure any home improvement store in your area would have them back in the paint section.

Also, I think if you go to the top of your screen and click on "search" and type in paint cans you may come up with some very useful and interesting links. (I am still trying to find my way around the new set up here!!)

HTH!!!!

I couldn't open the Adobe Acrobat file either. I got the same message that says it does not begin with a %pdf file.

Default Paint Can Template

I saw the pleas for help so I threw a template together, having recently made one myself from a label peeled off a paint can.

This is a pdf file that should be readable using Acrobat Reader. I would upload it but it is 30K in size and the upload limit is less than 20K. So I will email it to anyone who requests it.

Let me know if you have any trouble with it and I'll see what I can do.

Post Paint Cans by Marcia Howell

Paint Cans
by Marcia Howell

1 gallon paint can
2 sheets cardstock trimmed to 7 3/8" x 11" to cover the can
2 pieces cardstock cut to 5 1/4" x 6 1/4"
2 pieces cardstock cut to 4 3/4" x 5 3/4"
1 piece of cardstock cut in a 5 3/8" circle
another circle of cardstock cut to the size of your
preference
2 pieces of ribbon 22" long in your choice of color
carpet tape to adhere the base layer of carstock to the can
regular adhesive of your choice
E6000 glue
other embellishments of your choice

(Do this part with regular text paper first in order to be certain of the measurements and placement.)
Cut a slit in the paper approximately 3" down. About 2" down the slit, cut or
punch a 3/4" circle. The slit should obviously not continue past the circle. The lid to the Stampin Mist is the perfect size if you dont have anything else to use.
Definitely check against the paint can. Dont worry too much about little gaps at the top or bottom because they will be covered with ribbon. Once done with you cardstock, use the carpet tape to adhere it to can. You really need to use a strong adhesive. I actually used double-stick tape but have been told it may let go at an inopportune moment!

Stamp your images on the 4 3/4" x 5 3/4" cardstock. Layer onto the 5 1/4" x 6 1/4" cardstock. Then adhere to the can.

Apply E6000 glue to the rim of the paint can in sections. I used my finger and put it on about 6" at a time. Start under the handle so that when you end, it will be under the handle. Cut off any excess. Repeat on the bottom rim.
Adhere the larger circle to the lid. Stamp your images on the smaller circle and also adhere.

Fill can with tissue paper or shredded/crimped paper and add goodies.

Another question....I've seen several paint cans in the gallery that appear to have several ribbons down the sides by the handles. Are you'll tying those on to the handles or making an bow and gluing them on?? I made one tonight but am still not completely satisfied with it. I think these are really cute but they are very time consuming. If they didn't have the handle, I dont' think they'd be quite as hard.
Thanks for all your help over the last couple days while I tried to figure this project out!
Sharon

Default MANY, MANY Thanks!!

Thanks for everyone who answered my plea the other day regarding the paint cans. I made one for a baby shower I attended today and it was a huge hit. I had one lady book a demo, two ask to be on my mailing list, several ask when my next classes were, and one lady asked me to make 12 for her friend's daughters for their birthdays at $20 a can! So, it was well worth the time to do it!

Thanks so much!
Sharon
PS--I'll post the picture as soon as the gallery is up.
