I altered a comp. book in to an address for my mom's birthday. I just cut the paper down to size and then embellished. I stamped each letter on to paper and then cut each one out and added ribbon to them, or paperclips, eyelets, brads...so they were all different. It was so cute in the end. I stapled each letter directly on to the paper....so it definitely wouldn't go anywhere. Have fun. I had a lot of fun with this...and plan on doing another one soon.

From my experience, I like using Mod Podge. The only thing with that is the cardstock has to be really good quality and thick, otherwise it wrinkles a little. Hope this helps!
The books I got were not cut straight so you might want to consider cutting your paper a little large and trimming it after adhering. I used the widest twill tape to cover my spine and used sticky strip (or tacky tape) to adhere it.
I love using the brown packing paper from Staples to wrap them like you used to cover your school books, then decorate that way. Really sturdy. I used sticky strip and scotch double-sided.
