Default Stamping on tranparancies

What am I doing wrong, it is just not going right, my transparancy is warping. First off, I got the Multipurpose version at the office supply store. I am stamping on the rough side and then using embossing powder and my heat gun. I am trying not to stay in one place for very long, but it is still warping. Any hints or suggestions would be great!

I don't know how to help. I have stamped on my transparencies with black stazon or craft inks and just let them dry. I haven't ever heard of using embossing powder and a heat gun on them. I would think the heat from the heat gun would be too intense for the transparencies.

The transparicies that are sold in stamping stores are made to be embossed on, but from what I've been told the ones in office supply stores are not. I was told that is the only real difference between the two.

Can you use staz-on and not emboss your project?

What about craft white ink? can you heat set it if you hold the heat embosser far enough away?

Did you get transparencies for laser printers? These ones will take the heat better since the ink powder needs to be melted onto the transparency. I don't think they will take the heat of a heat gun however.

The other thing I am experimenting with is whether I can use Dye based ink on the rough side of the transparancy. I would think the rougher side would have a place for the ink to go and stay there.

While experimenting, one thing I have found is that light color inks such as greens and blues do not work well unless you have a light colored background. I want to try and create overlays for pictures.

I agree with cat_woman. Your transparency has to be the kind that will accept heat.

I have never tried to heat emboss on a transparency before. But I know Stazon inks and Palette inks work well. I recently made a grad card and used Palette inks for the first time and it worked fine (no smearing - just need to heat set for just a couple of seconds to make sure the ink sets in). The transparency I use is the regular one from the office supply store.

Well I tried stamping with the dye ink on the rough side of the transparancy and it dried and looks great! Now to make this work with layouts and cards.

Heat is directed from the top to melt the embossing powder so something should control the temperature of the transparency from the bottom. I have tried various items so you will also have to experiment with what works for you. I use a piece of cardboard from an ordinary box and place it in the freezer before I begin (my daughter uses a small marble cheese slicing board). I take it out after I have everything in place to begin the heating portion of my project. Place it beneath my transparency and begin to heat. Heat embossing a transparency is slower work as you cannot get your heat source too close to the transparency. The cold beneath your work gives a measure of control over the temperature to retard warping. I use the multipurpose transparencies more often than not and this works on them. The results are well worth the effort, please don't give up on this technique.
