Default stamping tile question...

can you stamp tiles with the classic ink?
if i'm going to seal it anyways does it really matter?

what do you use to color the images in?
i've seen it done with pastels, does it have to be a "rough" tile for that?

thanks for the help

On the tumbled tiles I use: Stazon & chalks & sealer.

On the glazed ones I use: Stazon & sharpies. I emboss the edges to look nicer.

Good Luck!

Classic inks can't be used even if you seal it. It just doesn't work and still look good.

I made some tiles last night, on the smoother ones. I used Staz-On for the image, colored in with the chalks, then baked them at 300 for 15-20 minutes. But I don't see what the baking did - the chalk still comes right off! I'm going to seal them today - will that help to set the chalk??? Anyone??

I just didn't like the look of the sharpies (seemed like too much color), but it was tough to get the chalk to show up. Grrrr.... trial and error, I guess. But I am wondering about the setting chalk with sealer - will that work? Thanks. - J.

Default tiles

When I use pastels on the glazed tiles, I spray the tiles with a light coat of krylon matte sealer first and then color in with pastels and seal again with a heavier coat to seal the chalk.
It does work just fine to use pastels on glazed tiles without spraying first. But I found it takes less time and chalk if they are sprayed first.

Default baking

I do bake the tiles after stamping with Staz-On. I think that just helps set the Staz-On...not sure though. I just do it cuz that is what many on this website have advised to do. After you bake them, you color with chalk and then seal the chalk. Baking won't seal the chalk.

Some people have said that they use classic pads, and others say they don't work...I'm wondering - If I want to use my snowflakes set and use the classic pads, will that be okay? I won't be coloring the images in at all, so I won't have to worry about smearing doing that. I was planning on heat setting with my heat tool and sealing with matte sealer. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks!

Good idea, Krazee. Hadn't thought of that. I'll have to try that on my next set.

Shauna, I have read on earlier posts that the reason people don't use the classic pads on the tiles is because they smear, espec. on the glazed tiles. Not sure about the more porous ones, though. There's a pic in the gallery of some beautiful snowflake tiles done in blue, but can't remember what they used for it. Let me check my favs and pull it up for you. - J.

Here it is, Shauna. She said she used Versamarker and then chalk for it. Hmmmm..... :?

If it doesn't work (because I copied it from my favs file), let me know and I'll try it again. - J.

Thanks! I hadn't seen those before. That's pretty much exactly what I had in mind for my MIL! Although the tiles I bought aren't the same. I think mine aren't quite as porous. They're rough, but have a coating of some kind on them, I think (they're somewhat shiny). I hope they work ok. Thanks again!

I use a lot of chalk on my tiles, charcoal pencils too. I never bake, always seal. The only good I've seen come from baking StazOn is if you want your colors to fade.

I've tried many different ways to use my classic pads on tiles, it never works for me. I use Stazon or Craft pads, and color in with chalk or pearlex. I like to seal with crystal effects just on the image itself, it seems to work better than the spray sealer for me.
