Here is what I have done in the past: Stamp on white tissue paper with waterproof in. GENTLY color in the image ( if it is a line-type image) with chalks. That worked best for me since you only needed gentle pressure. Then I cut out the image, fairly close but not exactly on the lines. Using one of those foam craft brushes, I brushed a layer of modge podge on my bar of soap and then carefully placed my image in the wet modge podge. Using the foam brush, gently brush another layer of modge podge over the image and be sure the edges are sealing against the soap. Let it dry.
I have also read that you can dip the soap into parafin wax and it will preserve it better. I have not tried this but it sounds like it would work.
Be sure your soap surface is smooth. Those little hotel soaps are so cute when you decorate them!
At one of our meetings, it was demo'd to us. stamped on tissue paper, like above. No Hodge podge. Lay image on soap, cover with waxed paper, and heat with heat gun, it melted right on to the soap.
Thank you ladies! Have you tried using the bar of soap after doign this?
I am thinking about doing this at a Stamp Camp. Does anyone have suggestions for what kind of soap to use besides the hotel bars? I don't think I'm going to make enought hotel visits between now and then.
Thanks! I picked up some Pure and Natural soap at Walmart (3 bars for $.97) and it looks like it'll work well. I appreciate you telling me so I didn't have to buy several brands! I know my ladies are going to like this!

You are welcome! It's so funny how all of a sudden there's an interest in the stamping on soap. It never even crossed my mind until I saw them at the stamp festival.
I sprayed Minwax Polycrylic on the soap then layed my stamped and penciled image on the soap. Once it dried, I used a cotton ball to spread melted clear candle wax over it. I've used the oops attempts and the image so far has stayed on. Hope this helps.
