I must have missed this one--How do you do the embossed soda tops to use as buckles? There are two in the special Breast Cancer forum. What a great way to get a buckle!!!
Very carefully!! Embossing these isn't easy in my opinion. I heated the tab and then dipped it in some EP and then did it again. The tough part was getting the tweezers to cooperate with the tab. On another one I spray painted the tab. Much easier!!!!!! I did a gold one and a copper one. The white one I needed for a red, white, and blue congrats card and it was hard!! If anyone has a great suggestion for holding the tab, I would love to hear it.
Wonder if using a pair of tweezers to hold by the center piece of metal of the tab. Tell me if this works. I have been meaning to try one and keep saving them but I haven't tried yet.
maybe.....if you push the part down that holds it on the can ( the little circly thingy) and bend it down, press into versamark, cover with EP, hten hold it with a pliers or the tool in the new eyelet kit. if it had rubber handles you would not get burnt.
i pushed into Versa Mark to cover it being careful not to touch the top. then i took it and used the paper peircing tool in teh eyelet tool kit ( you could use a skewer or something pointy too) to pick up and place right in my jar of EP, made sure it was covered with EP and again used the tool to pull it out of the jar of EP. carefully layed it on a surface safe for the Embossing gun (and a surface you do not care if EP gets melted onto) and heat. the powder will take a minute to harden because the pop top gets hot so as long as you give it a few minutes to dry you have a lovely glossy shiny pop top to use as a buckle!!!
so, I took a small paint brush with a flat end, and stuck a glue dot on it, then used the paint brush end (a pencil also should work) to pick up the pop tab. then dipped in versamark, and then dipped in clear EP. this seemed to work well.
I just heated the can top first then dipped into EP. I did this twice and mine turned out great. I did have a little bump on one end, but i pressed down on that and it blended in. Plus I covered that spot with ribbon.
I heated the tab first (no need for versa mark or other embossing ink). I held the tab with an old pair of pliers by the center thingy ( lost for words on how to describe that). The ribbon will cover that part so no worries if the ep does not cover that area completely. I am using up my old cheapo ep for these babies.
Nan, I like the spray paint idea! Also - really love the background of your card; looks like polished stone - what reinkers did you use to get that look?
I sprayed a bunch last night, so much easier and faster. I did need one that was white, so had to EP that one. I'll post the cards later after I finishe them ~ if I can ever get off the computer today
Gee thanks you guys for all the great ideas on how to use the millions of tabs I have been saving but afraid to try. I am going to Ben's tomorrow when I go to an appointment and get some spray paint for metal. I never would have guessed that one. It was too easy! and thank you Cindy for yours. That one was very clever.
Have done it both ways used versa mark and just heated the tab after I dump the EP on i drag the tab out of the ep with the twezzer and heat it that way I have a expample but i cant get it to attach
I notice some of the pop tabs are rounder than others...I usually drink (okay, I GUZZLE!) Diet Coke and I don't much like the shape of those...which pop is it that has the nice round even ends?
Oh, I see now... Duh!!!
Sorry, but I have no clue which can was used for this, we have many different kinds of soda in the fridge.... , I'll check on it, great question.
