For a line that thin I would be tempted to use gold tape. I can't think of the name right now but it is very thin and comes on rolls. It is self adhesive and you could miter the corners with your exacto knife.
I have embossed super thin lines around my cards by putting the edge of my card on my embossing ink pad. I would tap the edge of the card into the embossing ink pad put on the embossing powder and heat it up. Then move to the next side until you have all sides completed. This embossed line is very thin. You may want to try it out on a scrap piece of cardstock first to see if it is the look you want.
Ladies.....Using gold or silver leafing pens works great. You can get them in either a fine line or a bit wider. I get mine in AC Moore, but I know you can get them in Michaels too. In the art department or around Christmas time typically on an endcap. The pens usually say caligraphy on them.
Bunny, another thing that you can use to get a really thin line is a PaperMate EraserMate pen.....which you can also use to emboss your own handwriting! I also use mine in the Pen Tool on my Pazzles Inspiration. If you go to my blog.........look at the "wedding cards" on Oct. 3rd and Sept.
7th. It works because the ink stays wet for a bit and you can add embossing powder and heat it. I learned this trick from the lady that owned a stamp store in a nearby town!
I always use my 2-way glue pen. It works great. They have the fine points too.
Then sprinkle it with your powders.
Check out the Frankie card in my gallery.

Bunny, here is a photo of one I just did with a paper scrap, my EraserMate pen, Ranger "Queen's Gold" embossing powder and my "Heat It" gun...is this what you are wanting?
I was at a class once that they just used an everyday Bic pen for a signature, which stayed wet long enough to sprinkle embossing powder. I think that or the Sakura Quickie Glue Pen would be my first choices to get the look you want. Good Luck.

Since a few of you mentioned the versamarker, I was wondering, how long is it suppose to last? I bought one, only used it a couple of times, and put it horizontally in a plastic shoebox. When I went to use it again, it was all dried up and worthless. I couldn't believe it! Has this ever happened to anyone else?
