how to emboss a THIN line?
1 Attachment(s)
Im wanting to have a white card face, 5 x 7
but about 1/4 inch from edge I want a very THIN gold line all the way around. Thin like pencil lead thin. My question is what do I use to get the thin line for the embossing powder to stick to? like this: |
Wow, that is a thin line, but I would say the versamarker?
|
I would definitely use a Versamarker, with my T ruler, to make sure the corners are square, and everything is lined up properly.
Good luck; it sounds very pretty =] |
thanks ladies, off to find one.
LOL... *wonders how big a mess she's about to make.... * |
For a line that thin I would be tempted to use gold tape. I can't think of the name right now but it is very thin and comes on rolls. It is self adhesive and you could miter the corners with your exacto knife.
Just a thought. |
I would use a Gold Leafing pen but if you want to emboss and the line is very thin do what the others say but be sure to use Detail gold EP.
|
I have a gold Zig writer, and a gold gel pen, but they BOTH look green to me, not gold. LOL...
I have never heard of the gold tape OR a leafing pen  yep, see my newbie shoes showing? LOL... |
The Sakura Quickie glue pen is the way to go, it makes a very thin line & is so easy to use. It is a roller ball pen.
|
I used a leafing pen on this card it looks true gold.

I was just at a stamping class and we used the red tape. Worked great!

Embossing a THIN line
I have embossed super thin lines around my cards by putting the edge of my card on my embossing ink pad. I would tap the edge of the card into the embossing ink pad put on the embossing powder and heat it up. Then move to the next side until you have all sides completed. This embossed line is very thin. You may want to try it out on a scrap piece of cardstock first to see if it is the look you want.

I bought a Zig Emboss writer, they each have two ends one fine and one chisel, I have written names on cards and embossed or sprinkled glitter on.

Ladies.....Using gold or silver leafing pens works great. You can get them in either a fine line or a bit wider. I get mine in AC Moore, but I know you can get them in Michaels too. In the art department or around Christmas time typically on an endcap. The pens usually say caligraphy on them.

Bunny, another thing that you can use to get a really thin line is a PaperMate EraserMate pen.....which you can also use to emboss your own handwriting! I also use mine in the Pen Tool on my Pazzles Inspiration. If you go to my blog.........look at the "wedding cards" on Oct. 3rd and Sept.
7th. It works because the ink stays wet for a bit and you can add embossing powder and heat it. I learned this trick from the lady that owned a stamp store in a nearby town! I hope this helps you! Pam |
I always use my 2-way glue pen. It works great. They have the fine points too.
Then sprinkle it with your powders. Check out the Frankie card in my gallery. Bonnie |
Just Versa and sprinkle....
I just mask off and then run my versamark around the edges... then sprinkle, it worked out very well for a card I did last year.

Bunnycates wants the line a quarter inch in from the edge & pencil thin, not the edge itself embossed, so pens are really the only way to go.

Awesome Idea
what fabulous ideas...thanks for sharing you all.

I'm not as creative as all you ... but, I'd have reached for those good old Mrs. G. skinny metallic design lines stickers. Surely you remember them?:)
|
I was at a class once that they just used an everyday Bic pen for a signature, which stayed wet long enough to sprinkle embossing powder. I think that or the Sakura Quickie Glue Pen would be my first choices to get the look you want. Good Luck.

Since a few of you mentioned the versamarker, I was wondering, how long is it suppose to last? I bought one, only used it a couple of times, and put it horizontally in a plastic shoebox. When I went to use it again, it was all dried up and worthless. I couldn't believe it! Has this ever happened to anyone else?
