pearl ex powders
I am not totally new to stamping but am intrigued with pearl ex and how to use it. Can anyone give me a relatively simple step by step because in the SU catalog I am not really sure.
There are many ways to use it, but the simplest is just with Versamark. Stamp your image in Versamark, and then GENTLY brush some Pearl Ex over the Versamarked image-the PE will stick to the Versamark. It works much in the same way as using pastels with Versamark, but the image is really sparkly, but more subtle than glitter. Seal with cheap hairspray because it will rub off if handled often (like the pastels)
A wonderful stamper who uses this board "beckitty" showed me that you can use a swiffer dry cloth and gently rub over where you have used the Pearl Ex and it takes off a lot of the excess pe so it has more crisp lines. I use a cottonball to dab on the pe, cheap and easy. Go lightly, you can always use more.
You can also use it with clear embossing powder and mix it in, or even mix it with crystal effects to make a colored glaze. I have been using it more and more and really like the sparkle. Hope that helps!
Are you ready-eddy-eddy for another tip?? Another fun thing to do is the heated Pearl Ex technique. You just spread Elmer's glue all over your cardstock so that it is evenly white all over(I use a whole sheet and cut it up later for accents and backgrounds) and then sprinkle different colored pearl ex powders all over (I use three contrasting colors). I then take a plastic knife and drag it through the little clumps to create swirly effects and spread the color around. Use your embossing gun next to heat up the glue and make it bubble up. The bubbles give it texture. Then let it dry overnight! Fun!
I tried to get my scanner to work today, but alas, it was in vain. I will try to take a photo and post it in a message...It is VERY cool, and looks unlike anything else I have tried with pearl ex. I must go for now (dinner guests arriving soon) but I will post a pic tomorrow under this topic!
