A Scor-pal is a board with multiple grooves so you can score your cardstock easily to make fancy folds.
Look on the Splitcoast home page and click on the Scor-Pal logo. Then click on the banner at the top of that page.
You can use your bone folder and a ruler with a metal edge to make the score lines on the cards and save yourself some money
If all you want is a score line, I can totally see it. On the other hand I've never seen a 'homemade' score look even remotely like the one I can get with the SI. Seems like with the grooves on the SP you'd get a pretty deep score from that too (I've never used one so I'm guessing).
So, are you just making folding scores like that? Or do you have a way to make decorative scores with a ruler that I really need to know about?

Actually I don't use a paper cutter like that... I have the Fiskars (?) one but the cut was NEVER straight. Ish. Paid too much for that lesson! It lives under the table, covered in dust. The only way I really cut paper anymore is with a ruler & blade, either exacto type or a rotary blade. Seems archaic, but at least if there's a problem I know it was my own fault!

This is exactly what I wanted to ask because I have a cutter/trimmer with a scoring blade. I haven't tried it yet to make lines and squares to be part of the card front design, but I'm going to practice to see if I like the results.
Well, I just tried one of those partial cuttlebug cards with a couple score lines about an inch from the bottom, and leaving a flat section for me to stamp on. The scoring blade on my cutter/trimmer was perfect for that.
I also did a little research on the scor-pal and it seems that if you have to do multiple projects with a lot of scoring, or boxes, etc., that the scor-pal is nice because you don't have to move the paper like you do through a cutter/trimmer - just lay the paper down and use the pre-measured lines on the scor-pal. But for someone like me who doesn't mass produce cards, I think I'll use my cutter/trimmer scoring blade.
Here is a tutorial from "In my Stamp Room" blog showing how to make a tall box with the scor-pal. I suppose if you used your cutter/trimmer scoring blade it would take a little longer because you would have to move the paper along the ruler at each of the measured intervals.
Sorry - this is getting away from the "partial cuttlebug" subject, but I thought I'd add it here for those of us that wonder if we really need a scor-pal. Maybe not for the partial cuttlebug techniques, but wow - check out these boxes that would take no time at all with the scor-pal! Moderators - feel free to move this to a different thread if that's where it should be.

Anyone have instructions for partial cuttlebug? Where the center is still flat paper. I've seen it done, but no one explains how. Thanks a million. Rachelle

After I found the tips (Listed below) I have had no problem with my large Fiskars paper cutter. I'm still using it 6 years later.
1. Make sure the cutting bar is all the way down.
2. Be sure the cutting strip is in level.
3. Use a sharp blade.
4. Be sure the cutting blade is on correctly with the words to the outside.
5. It is always best to have some pressure on the large side of the paper (the board side of the cutter)
6. Always make your cuts in one direction (top to bottom or bottom to top).
7. Do your decorative edges on a different cutting strip so the straight edges will follow one track)
8. Don�t cut too many layers at once.
9. Turn or replace the cutting strip when it has multiple lines on it.

I dont know if the shipping is reasonable for you or not, but Creativexpress.com had the cuttlebug on sale for 35.00 at one time!

I was about to suggest shopping around on some websites..
i have a michaels right her einour town..and they never have embossing folders..(maybe 2 or 3..) so i browsed around on line...got the machine for 35.00.....two bonus plates (the big ones that you sandwishthe dies /folders between and roll thru)....and in addition i ordered about 15 folders all on sale at 3.74 each....they gave me 4 free mini embosing plates as a gift..and free shipping...i was thrileld wiht the entire order and what it offered...
of course i wanted it IMMEDIATELY..and the 5 days of waiting for ym UPS guy was T O R T U R E..but...it was soooo worth the wait!
do a google search...youll probably find a bargain /deal of some sort..and a better selection of folders than michaels has...
my sweetie got me my CB and all of the folders in march as a bday gift! I cannot stop using it...
Thanks for the information, I have done alot of looking at different sites for prices and shipping and the cost of the machine works out to be the same if not more online as it does with buying it from Micheals, we have a nasty thing called duty that we have to pay on this end when we get large items, but I will probably buy alot of the folders and die cuts online, duty isn't as much for small items because they don't weigh as much. Thanks
have an old "box maker" thing from Aleens from quite a few years ago.
it scores the paper fine, you just have to start and stop properly to avoid a 'nick"
the platform looks like a miniature Score Pal and one side is for the top of the box and the other is for thebottom.
thought some of you would like to dig thru your old stuff and try it.
