I decided to try tiles for wedding favors for my wedding. This is my attempt at tiles. I bought white smooth 2x2 tiles and now have a problem with the image smearing. I have tried Staz On and embossing the image with no luck. Help..... :(
They all seemed so dark and I had seen some smooth ones on the site before so I figured I give it a shot. I think i am going to have to buy different tiles. Thanks.
I have made magnets out of the 2X2 smooth. A couple of options.
1- stamp image w/stazon, then seal, then color, chalks, etc. Seal again.
Or you can versa mark, and do a poppin' pastel type of thing, seal. Also the petal point chalk work great too, seal, of course.
I have started stamping on tiles and use the Staz On ink. Then I color in with Sharpies. Lastly bake in a 350 degree oven for 15-20 min. I haven't had any trouble with my image coming off. I use the tiles from Lowe's with the brand name Rialto. They are more of a tumbled tile. The colors are marked white or beige. I am using both, and the colors of the stamps are showing up well. They are only about 32 cents a tile and really look classy. Hope this helps! Denise(vegaswife)
 Wolfblade...so sorry I read your post too quickly and thought you meant 4x4 tiles. Sorry. If I find out any ideas I'll let you know.Denise(vegaswife)
First you have to get the image stamped with Stazon, without blurring it. I admit to wiping it several times before I had a steady enough hand!
Then I put it on a cookie sheet and baked it for about 15 minutes or so at maybe 325.
Then after it cools, I spray it with a sealer - Um, a fixative. Krylon Workable Fixatif.
I sent some to my sister originally that I'd sealed but not baked, and when one got dirty and she wiped it off harder, it came off. :( So now I bake them first. (If you seal them first, the baking discolors the seal. Ask me how I know.)
I have had various temperatures and times given, and would love to do a comparative scientific study but haven't yet. LOL
Good luck!

I have used both ... tumbled marble tiles and also the glazed white smooth. I use Staz-On with the glazed tiles and mostly Staz-On with the tumbled marble also. I only seal if I use anything other than Staz-On. I stamp first... heat the ink with my heat tool... and then color with Sharpies.
With the tumbled marble... you can color with just about anything that sticks... as long as you use a sealer... I use a clear acrylic sealer spray with a matte finish. Just be very careful to spray lightly at first and don't get too close!

My experience has taught me that two or three light sprays of sealer give a nicer, tougher finish than one spray does. I think if it is something that will get used a lot and washed, such as a hot pad, that it just has to be resealed again once in a while. If you scrub them hard very often the images will come off. We have experimented a lot with many sizes and finishes of tiles and the smooth, glazed- finish tiles are a lot harder to work with than the tumbled. They are really fun to do though and the ideas just seem to be endless. We keep wanting to try a new idea before we get the one we are working on finished! As inexpensive as the tumbled tiles are, I would get some and try them if I were you. I think you will be more pleased with the results. Good luck and have fun:-)
Ok I have a question about the Sealer? I have been reading these post and reading them. I went to like 4 stores asking for Krylon Matte finish Sealer. Can't find anything that says that. Michaels told me that the Krylon Matte Finish is what I am looking for? Is this correct, or does is actually say Sealer on it?
Thanks
Thank you all for the wonderful advise. I got the tiles stamped(all 150 of them) I have not found the sealer yet, but they look wonderful. I did four different styles to match the invitations for the wedding. I will post pictures once I get the nerve up to show them. This is my first major endeavor with matching favors, invitations, and the works. Thank you so much for all the help. This site is the best thing I have ever found.
Wow, 150 in a day!!! I'm impressed. Here is another tip. Staz On can be removed from the 2x2 smooth tiles with the wonderful and versatile Magic Eraser. Just dampen the eraser and it comes right off, dry the tile and try again.
I use these two, Kyrlon Clear Glaze and American accents Clear top coat
on is matte, on is glossy. I don't bake them. Just seal after each addition of ink, chalk, etc, to keep it in place for good.
Have you tired any more, I was suprised the smooth glossy tiles worked, I put magnets on the back, will be super cool for shower favors, I think, I have some I need to take pictures of and post.

Man, wish I would have known that last week, would have saved me some bleach :?
Thanks to everyone who send ideas and suggestions. With your help and some supplies from pennywise my guests will love them. I am putting them in the fruit cups as a surprise.
