Smile Moon in brayered sky??

Ok-this probably is a stupid question but how do you get the moon or the sun in a brayered sky? I had made a template and taped it down but then the tape left a mark. Any help would be appreciated-Thanks so much-Paula

It sounds like you need to mask the moon/sun area with something sticky but repositionable. Post-it makes wide tape that is good for masking. There are also specific masking products.

Here's a cheater trick I like to use sometimes...go ahead and brayer your sky, then use a circle die to cut the moon out, and layer white cardstock behind the opening.

Michelle Zindorf uses post-it notes. If you're careful it doesn't have to be ALL sticky just so long as it stays in the same place it's good.
Such an effective technique!

I have also done emboss resist to do this - emboss a circle with clear embossing powder, then brayer over and wipe it off the embossed part. Leaves it kind of shiny too.

There are post-its that are completely sticky on the back too.

I usually go with a post-it note punched out. Just aim to get your punched shape as far onto the tacky strip as possible. It doesn't have to be all tacky, just enough to hold it down. Another option is to use some repositionable glue tape runner on the back of a copy paper mask.

Just a note about Sticky Notes: there are some out there called super stick and they can rip paper when you pull them off.

I once used a clip art moon, and pasted it onto the sky after brayering

That's a FANTASTIC way of doing it - thanks for the tip Dini I have put a post-it note circle where I want the moon but when I brayer over it, it is never smooth around the circle and often the ink seeps underneath and spoils it. I got around by brayering my sky onto the glossy cardstock then diecutting a circle out of the glossy cardstock for the moon and sponging it with a pale yellow chalk ink and attaching it over the sky. You can see how it looks on my card HERE. Hope this helps Paula.

I use Eclipse tape. It's large enough to cut almost any size shape to use as a mask and it's sticky all over. I found mine at Ellen Hutson.

Another thought--run some tape on the back of your image (moon, sun, etc.), then tap the tape side on a sweater or fuzzy garment. This "deadens" some of the stickiness, making it merely tacky and lots easier to remove after brayer-ing.

What department in Hobby Lobby? My luck I'd spend an hour trying to find someone who knew.

Thanks

Sometimes I forget to put the moon mask down before I brayer, then I just punch a circle from a post it, but use the negative, and sponge over the "hole" with white craft (pigment) ink. It works pretty well. Here's a card from my gallery

I really like the effect of sponging the moon in with the white craft ink - I think it adds a softness to your scene. BTW, GORGEOUS card!
