Default Microscope Slide Shaker Ornament Tutorial

Was wondering if anyone has the instructions on how to make these. I'm in an ornament swap and really love the way these look. Any help appreciated. Also, where do you buy the slides at?

Thank you in advance!

Default Microscope Slide Shaker Ornament Tutorial

I usually get my slides at the Learning Palace (an educational store here in Vancouver). You can get them online cheaper sometimes, though.

As for a tutorial, try pennywisearts.com They have lots of helps!

Default microscope slides

I cut my own slides using sheets of picture frame glass. Its really easy. You can pick up an inexpensive cutter at a hardware store. Make sure your glass is clean and dip your cutter in cutting oil before you cut. Apply firm even pressure you should hear a kind of buzz sound when scoring.then you know your applying enough pressure and dont recut over your scored line. This will dull your cutter. After you finish your score hold the glass with both thumbs on either side of your scored line and snap it up towards you. Hope this makes sense ?? I use a mat cutter for lining up my glass, but you can hold a ruler down with one hand and score with the other. I am teaching a class for my stamp club and we are making microscope slide ornaments for Christmas. I cut 10 for each of the ladies. 120 total I couldnt even imagine what that would have cost to purchase them. It dosent take very long. Practice makes perfect !! . You can customize your own size as well. Hope this helps. All your friends will be asking you for your microscope slides. I have even sold many of them. Have fun and be sure and keep a bandaid handy just in case. Lol

Default microscope slides

Here is a great resource for slides of different sizes and shapes. It is called Microscope Depot. Prices are very reasonable and they ship in just days. Here is a link to their sight:
http://www.microscope-depot.com/slides_cover.asp

An easy way to finish the edges of a slide ornament is to wrap the edges with Sticky Tape (double sided & very strong) then roll the taped edges in micro beads, glitter, or wrap in ribbon. I've tried all three and they turn out great.

Good luck!
