Here goes the question and please do not laugh.
When making a card with super dark cardstock for instance navy blue or black are you using a gold or silver pen to write a personal message on the inside so that it can be seen since the cardstock is so dark? If not, what is used?
Or, is the base of the card made from a lighter cardstock and the front panel is made from a dark cardstock?
I know it's a stupid question, but I was just wondering about this when looking at the different cards in the gallery. Who know's what in the inside. :?
What I do is either I write with a light colored gel pen or since my husband doesn't really like gel pens or I tape a 1/4 sheet of printer paper inside where you would write. Hope this helps!
Mindy
what I do is make a card front in what ever color you want and then mount it on lighter color. That way your message can always be seing. If the card must be on dark cs because of design, then I heat emboss the message, always bring the original color of the ink with the clear ep no matter what color you stamped on
Hi everyone! I am new here,so this is my first post ever! I usually cut a piece of co-ordinating light cardstock a bit smaller than my inside back, round the corners, ink or chalk the edges in the dark color and glue it inside. I can't believe I aactually posted! I am very happy to be here with all of you!
Welcome to the group - you will be SO inspired by all the talent around here. Lots of friendly conversation too, and answers to ALL questions you could ever have! :-)
Welcome to the board! And great job on your first post! Thanks for the tip. I'd never thought to round the corners or chalk that inside coordinating piece. Great idea!
I don't care for my hand writing, so I print the sayings for the insides of my cards on good quality computer paper using a program for quarter-fold cards. I do four at a time, then trim them to fit and adhere them with a scrapbooking glue stick. The last step is to burnish them well with a soft, clean paper towel. (Of course, make sure the ink is dried first! )
People buy my cards as much for the sayings as they do for the designs.

No question is ever stupid; I've been at this 11 years and on many occasions have questions. What's so lovely, is that usually there is at least one angel who has an answer!
I used to make my base card from the dark colored card stock, but now I make it in white or ivory and layer a quarter sheet of dark on the front. My gel pens never seem to work when I need 'em, or my dd has stolen 'em from my studio :?

I am about the only one who actually writes with gel pens on the dark colored cards, I guess! I always use the Creative Memories ones, they always seem to work regularly unless I have had them for a long time. I think it is too much trouble and too expensive to make another piece for the front or for the inside of the card, although it is a great idea! I am not a demo and tend to use less cardstock than demos do. My kids are young but know they can't touch my CM gel pens! Now they come in pastel colors, too. Most people that I have sent these cards to are delighted to get something a little different in the mail!
You can also cut a piece of vellum with decorative scissors and write on that. Can leave it unattached so that the receiver can use the card over again.
I usually use a corresponding light color on the inside -- depending on the occasion, I will chalk or sponge ink around the edges. I also use a smaller, corresponding stamp on the inside piece to add a little personalization.
Good luck and enjoy! :P

I haven't done this with a dark card, but don't see why this wouldn't work. I have printed a saying or greeting on a piece of vellum and then attached the vellum to the inside with brads. It gives the inside a real nice look.
[ I think it is too much trouble and too expensive to make another piece for the front or for the inside of the card, although it is a great idea]
I too think it is too expensive to use just the cardstock so I usually buy the cream or white prefolded plain cards from Michaels and make a card front with the dark cardstock to put on these. I buy these prefolded cards either when they are on sale or with a coupon. They also come with envelopes so this really saves time and money.
Debbi.................thats only 1cent american.......I think you owe us more opinion to make up the difference! LOL!!!
Lisa...........welcome to the best group ever!!! glad you are posting!
here's my deal.............be flexable!!! I probably do a little bit of every thing mentioned here. when I sell dark cards I usually line the inside with a lighter cardstock and stamp an image inside too!
there......I athink that was 3 cents, I made up for debbi!!!!
I don't really like to write on dark cardstock (although I have a ton of gel & metallic pens--ok so I'm a pen collector as well ) so I do what my friends call a "trick card." I use 1/4 sheet of the dark cardstock. Onto that I layer a folded 8" x 5 1/4" light color cardstock (usually a neutural off-white, sometimes a coordinating color). This is the card that you open and write in. Then either I stamp the front of that or do a 3rd layer that is 3 3/4" x 5" in the same dark cardstock and stamp it. I hope that this makes sense!
Well lots of great ideas here......I guess I must be one of the only here that uses a White Gel Pen on the inside of dark cardstock.....The look is great . S

Im the same way. I hate my handwriting, and besides, I know I would mess up the writing and ruin the card! I always glue just the top portion of the paper to the inside so that it is loose at the bottom. Maybe I could try using a corner edger, thanx for the idea Starlightstamper!

I LOVE my ZIG painty!!
It looks so beautiful against the darker CS.
I also put my cards on some newspaper next to the edge of the table and 'smack' the ZIG against the edge...it splatters gold or silver speckles for a really cool background.
I to use the gel pens. I have a friend that did dark cards for Christmas and did her saying on the computer and printed them and used fancy siccors on the edge. Looked very nice.
Here's another idea she did. I always have each member of my family sign each Christmas card. Takes a while expecially with a five year old. She had everyone sign one piece of paper and scanned them and put this at the bottom of her text. Talk about a time saver!!
I just had to come up with something to do for this very thing recently. Instead of trying to write on the dard card stock, I took a sheet of plain printer paper and cut it to fit inside my cards. I then right my message on the paper and just slip it into the card. Sometimes those gel pens or silver paint pens can be hard to read if you get really detailed and write a lot. I like the way it worked to write on the regular paper and just slip it into the card.

No question here is silly... I struggled with this just this weekend and this is also what I came up with! I used the black as a base and the layer on the front of it is what opened. I really loved the way it looked. I did it with one of the cards in my gallery, Amethyst Hydrangea, and I loved it!
I always tape a slightly smaller piece of white or vanilla CS in the inside. I get my white paper from a paper supply company and buy a ream for uses like that. A 60-80 lb weight is good for that. Everything else, I use my SU cardstocks.
