I cannot, make that CANNOT, sponge ink on the edge of cs and make it look good. I always get blobs, or hardly any color, or blotches.
What do you use to ink the edges? I've been using daubers, but I've also tried sponges and q-tips. Do you use ink even? Or do you use pastels? I've gone that route, too, and I've never been pleased w/how they turn out.
Pretty please help me!

I only use sponges. I cut a sponge into fourths. then you have a point to hold onto. With the rounded edge I rub on the ink pad. Then holding the CS in my left hand (I am right handed) I brush the edges with the sponge. If I want it darker, I go around again.

What I do is to use the daubers and ink, and holding the cardstock in one hand I flick the dauber on the edge of the cardstock with the other. Same process with chalks. The flicking motion is what leaves a gentle, consistant sponging effect, and not blobs of color. I hope this makes sense.
that is what i do too. i hold the paper in my left hand and then go around the edges of the paper in stead of laying the paper on the tabel and doing it that way. much easier and looks great.
and depending on your project, sometimes messy looks good!
Also, if you start in the corners and sponge your way toward the center, you'll get the right type of shading (lighter in the center of your card/image and darker at the edges.) Mostly, it just takes practice!

Ditto to this method.
For a darker colour on the torn part only, I use the inkpad itself. But you have to hold the cs at an angle.
Wow! Thanks so much for all the helpful hints! I will be sure to try them out today!
Just another post that shows how helpful and kind everyone is here at SCS!

Would this be if you are actually sponging near the image rather than on the edges of the paper. I sponge the edges for a nice blend effect with the next layer.
Why do you sponge your edges? The effect you are looking for definitely influences how you uses the sponge.
I use the spots, they are the right size for it, use it lightly or heavier, just rub the spot to the edge of cs and that give the effect of an extra layer of cs.
