I need template help!

I'm very new to templates and I don't understand quite how to use them. :oops: I want to make a small (2x2) envelope to attach to the front of a card. I went to bydonovan.com and printed a template on computer paper, cut it out and folded it. It worked, but I want to know how to do this on regular cardstock or vellum. Am I supposed to run the cardstock through the printer and proceed from there? The problem is the instructions are printed on my sample and I know that won't work for vellum. Please give detailed instructions to a template illiterate stamper! Thanks!!!

Hi jkincolorado!

I have used 2 methods. First, you can totally open up the envie you wish to copy and trace it onto cardstock, then cut it out. Trace very lightly so the lines can be erased with a good eraser. You can even use the cardstock piece as a template for a while.

For more permanent templates, I buy a plain heavy plastic sheet at Michael's. (Found in the quilting area.) Trace your pattern onto the plastic & cut it out. This can be reused over & over and the edges never wear down. The plastic is very similar to the plastic page that our plaidmaker & other envelope templates is made of. The same stuff is GREAT for making your faux postage templates!
