Question how to tie those little ribbons

I love the way everyone is using ribbons to embelish their cards but is there a trick to tying those little bows or knots. I want to use them for my cardmaking and they need to be very flat so that they can go in the evelopes. Can U help me?

This question comes up a lot. The main tip everyone seems to give is to turn your card upside down and then tie the bow. For knots, the leading piece should always be the same one -- i.e., right over left and then take the same piece and go left over right.

Also, you actually can manipulate bows and knots after you tie them to get them to lie just right. Unless it's just absolutely messed up, you can always play around and tweak it a little.

Default flat bows

The best way I've found for flat bows is use S.U,double rectangular punch.Push the two ends of ribbon through from front to back, cross the ends over, then bring them back through to the front.a perfect bow every time. Ans they lye flat

here is a trick that I give out a lot at my workshops...because almost everything I do has ribbon on it! For perfectly straight bows, after you tie your left over right, turn the knot backwards and switch hands...then tie the bow on your square knot....make sense?? It works every time!

Here's a website I found at another message board. AWESOME for tying those perfect bows. This is the only technique I use for bow making now.

I also love this method used by katydidnt:

The bow isn't tied, just woven through holes made by the double slot punch.

The best way that I have found for tying bows that have the loops go straight across and that lay flat is to always make the first loop of the bow with the piece that is coming out at the bottom. No turning cards up side down or remembering left and right necessary.
