Hi!!! I'm having troubles adhering ribbon to cardstock? I've tried the vario tabs and mono adhesive but with the sheer ribbon it doesn't stick that well. I've seen on DIY scrapbook show that they've used masking tape but that's not archival safe??? Help!!!!
Jen
Jen, I like the glue dots to hold them in place, but you may be able to see through that with some of the more sheer items. As much as I hate to plug a Non Stampin Up item, there is something you may consider: Scrapper's Spray. I got mine from a local scrapbook/craft store. It's by Creative Imaginations, and is an invisible adhesive spray that is temporarily re-positionable before it "sets." It's got the "Creating Keepsakes" approval on it, but doesn't say it's archivable. It also says "Perfect for Vellum," but a sheer ribbon would be very lightweight, too, and would probably work perfectly.
I agree with our SU Glue Dots. They have terrific adhesion! Other SU items that work well are Crystal Effects or SU Liquid Glue. Just a little bit would work, and it can be hidden behind a little layer of anything just like the glue dots. Happy Stamping!
When I want to add a bow to a card, I punch a small hole where the ribbon is to go on the card front, then double a length of ribbon and push it through from the back. I then cut a small, narrow rectangle of cardstock and put it in the loop of ribbon on the back of the card and pull the ribbon through to the front. (The little rectangle keeps the ribbon from pulling out.) Then I tie my bow, secure the card front to the card, and it's very secure.
Glue Dots are by far the best adhesive to get ribbon stuck to a card. They are awesome! And when I use them at my workshops I always get a laugh when I tell people Christina Crawford's joke that they are the best babysitters. Put one on each palm and put them on the wall. They won't move for hours! LOL!

I am not a demo so I am going to "plug" a non-SU item. Creative Memories sells a very small width tape runner (I think it's called the mini) that works great for items like ribbon. It's always worked well when I've used it. I've also been at the scrapbook store where they've run it through a Xyron (seems an expensive use of that stuff, though). I mainly use my mono adhesive and it works fine.
New product alert!!! The glue dot company has come out with "glue lines", they are the same sticky product shaped in a skinny line...it comes in 1" lengths or a continuous line of 25' which you cut to the length you need. I purchased the product at Craft Warehouse a couple of weeks ago and have not yet tried it. I too, love the super adhesive qualities of the glue dots and figured this line product would make a nice addition to my collection of sticky stuff.
I actually ran into this dilemma last night trying to adhere bows to card fronts. I tried Aleene's Paper Glaze (like CE) and SU! liquid glue, but neither one worked. Then I tried Aleene's Tacky Glue - and it worked! Yay! I usually punch holes, but I needed to position the bow more in the center, and the punch doesn't reach that far. I just hope the glue holds up in the mail!
I have run my ribbons thru the Xyron machine. I just line a bunch up and zip it thru. Bet it would be easier with the smaller one.
This is only good to adhere ribbon flat to the paper. Though I did do a simple loop with the yellow ribbon and just put glitter on the exposed sticky side.
Not sure if that makes sense but I am talking about the single loop with two ends that you often see folks where on their lapel for Breast Cancer, Aids and support of troops. What are they called?? Hmm
Cut a "smidgen" from a pop dot...works every time for me and it holds up in the mail! Haven't yet tried the glue dots but it sounds like I need too!

If you need to punch a hole in the middle of your cardstock and your punch won't reach, just use the hole punch from the eyelet tool kit. You can make a hole anywhere you desire!!

I actually tried the hole punch from my crafter's kit last night too, but I didn't get a very crisp punch. It looked like the paper was ripped more than punched. What do you think I did wrong?
Shauna,
I always lay cardstock directly onto a firm/hard surface, such as the setting mat or a block of wood (from TexasGrandpa). Is it possible that you had the cardstock laying on a softer surface, such as a 'pad' of paper? Just a thought.
I used the plain black mat included with the crafter's kit. Maybe that isn't the one I'm supposed to use... I just put the cardstock on the black mat, place the punch where I wanted the hole, and pounded a few times with the hammer. Did I use the wrong mat?
Shauna,
The plain "spongy" mat is for piercing paper with the sharp piercing tool. The firmer/harder mat is for setting eyelets, and many people do use this as the background for pounding on the anywhere punch. Give the hammer a good 'whack' when you're using the anywhere punch too. ;)
Hope this helps,
~Beverly
