Default Handmade Journals

I am looking for instructions to make handmade journals where you make the covers out of matboard or similar material. I can't quite figure out the binding (how it bends but still stays together) and how to get the eyelets through that thick of board (and where to find big enough eyelets). I don't see anything in this section or the resources section. I saw several in the gallery but the referred me here for instructions. Maybe something got lost in the transition? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

I cut my matboard on my swingarm cutter. Decide the size you want it to be, plus how many pages.
You can buy a punch at most art/paper art stores that is similar to an anywhere punch only heavyduty.
Cut your pages slightly smaller than the size of your cover. Decide where your holes are going to be and how many
I usually stick to 3 holes, sometimes 2 because I can use my regular 3 hole punch to do the pages with.
You can put this together with things like jump rings, split rings, binder rings, ribbon, cord or hemp. If you are going to tightly bind, then make sure the cover will open.
The way I accomplish this is to cut my front cover slightly narrower than the back and split off about 1/2". Lay these 2 pieces on back cover to make sure they line up and tape together to form a hinge. The hinge piece is where you will put your holes.
lay your punched pages in between back cover and hinged front cover and bind it together. Of course, inbetween all these confusing instructions you will cover the outside and inside of covers with paper or fabric or stamping.
I know this may seem confusing, but I took a simple bookmaking class then went home and proceeded to do it my way. Play around and have fun, they are addicting.
I have made little books using sketchbook sets and interesting sayings. I love each and every one because I have totally put myself into it.
Another thing is to buy premade kits of a few different types and then copycopycopy the technique.

You might want to give my Mini Album Template a try. It makes a quarter-page sized album/scrapbook that sounds like what you are looking for. A photo is here: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

The template is in the Downloads:Resources forum:

okay, so if I split the front cover, I use tape to hinge them together? Is there a certain tape that works better than others? I'm thinking duct tape because it is stronger? Then if I put paper over the top it won't show? What about large eyelets? Where can I find them?

Thanks for helping.....
