Grey guiding to me means using a Greay Dye ink like SU Going Grey to stamp with and then go back over it with colors and shades to give it your own colors, like with a rose or bird, etc. Does it mean something different to anyone else?
You are right! It's best to use chalks or colored pencils to add color though. The grey image is just a guide so you can add different colors to different areas.
Its one of my most favorite techniques that I learned over 6 years ago. The earlier post about stamping with a grey pad and then going over and over it again with chalk was correct. If you are a glitter gal...what we did was stamp in grey all over a small piece of cardstock. We used an older set from SU called Fabulous Florishes (sp?) which has bold images with no fine lines. We then went over and over the images with the pastels and then sprayed a finishing spray over the pastels to seal the color in. Then with a 2 way glue pen we outlined all the images and then added glitter. The card was a WOW! The images POP out and you can no longer see the gray. We took the smaller piece and layered it with another fun color of cardstock and added it to a card. Back in those days we didnt have as many choices for embelishments as we do now. If I can find the card (I kept it cause i loved it)...you can email me privately and I will email it back.
Ladies...try this technique. I have used it several times over the last 6 years. I dust it off when my ladies have seen just about everything that is out there. It always gets a ton of ooooohhhhhhhhhhhs and aaaaaaaahhhhs.

I have also used Gray Guiding with Twinkling H2O's. Although, not to highjack this thread, but, I have also found what is great for H2O's is stamping image with either Brilliance Gold Galaxy or Opalite Golden Mist. The watercolor darkens them and they become a part of the image blending really well getting a little darker and blending with the lighter areas.
Anyway, I love gray guiding too and thanks again for your technique.
