I have used distress inks as shadow inks (to highlight my focal image) by dabbing the ink on an acrylic block - this gives a nice pale watercolor effect.

I thought I would add another link to a tutorial here on SCS by Beate which might be of interest in case this is what you are looking for. You can find the tutorials here at SCS by clicking on resources at the very top RHS of your SCS page where you see the words: home | gallery | forums | resources | news | about
Ummm... my senior moments are occurring more often. I had completely forgotten Beate's tutorial about this very subject. And I was coming back here to give credit to the person who reminded me of this technique... Lucky Stamper: Lucky's One Layer Friday

I have no idea what techniue this name is actually given to but you can just use a Distress pad as a colour block. Press it gently onto your cardstock and you'll get a slightly shabby square of colour. Couple of samples attached for you to see how it works out.

I love your cards with the faded background and crisp front stamp. Looks awesome and gives me lots of ideas. Thanks.
