You're probably thinking "oh no she didn't". Oh yes. I did. And you know what? It worked pretty well! I figured if the gamsol melted the wax in colored pencils to make the colors blend, why wouldn't it work for crayons? So I gave it a whirl and will probably do it a lot more often!

regular crayons like crayola or the watercolor crayons from SU?
I got some RoseArt crayons for my girls at walmart for only $.12 for a box of 24 and tried those first, then I used just plain Crayola crayons. I think that the crayola worked a little better because there isn't quite as much wax.
Jessica, please tell us! What about your stumps? Were they easy to clean off or did you have caked crayon to sand off?
With my Prismacolor pencils, I've been laying the stumps down horizontally and drawing them off onto scrap paper when I'm finished w/ that color. I sometimes have to get a touch more OMS to finish the job. Yeah, I know, OCD... but I kept thinkin' about having to sand off the build-up. Guess I'm just too frugal.. trying to make the stumps last as long as possible.

I had to laugh when I read this. Making them last as long as possible. They are so terribly expensive!! ;-) It is a good question though. I would guess that there would be some buildup but you could probably scribble it off pretty much. I have yet to play with this idea. Too many card projects on the pile and not much time left until my October sale!

I am so TOTALLY lost with this one. What do you do with the Gamsol and the crayons? Also, what does the Gamsol do to the colored pencils as well? I have never heard of any of this? Can someone please enlighten me? I'd really appreciate it.

I can't answer the crayon part but for the pencils.....the gamsol 'melts' the wax and moves the color around. You use stumps (paper pencils) to accomplish this. You can see it demoed in the resource section under Gamsol Magic.

I found a pretty good deal for buying these stumps at enasco.com (key word blenders). They are located in Modesto, Ca.

Those blenders are not the same as stumps. Stumps are a compressed paper pencil shaped product. Those blenders are an actual pencil that has a clear 'wax' that sorta blends the colored pencil. The two effects are not the same.

What is a stump share? I am new to the gamsol technique, but I have absolutely fallen in love with it. I have done 2 cards now using this technique. I am using the Rose Art brand of colored pencils.

I've done several stump shares. I purchase them from JerrysArtarama.com and their shipping is quite high so I purchase a large amount to lower the shipping and sell them in small lots to anyone who wants them. The price is between $2.30 to $3.10 for a package of 12. Plus a small amount of postage to you from me. I hopefully will have another share going by the end of this month. I'll let you know when it happens.

Someone asked about using SU! watercolor crayons- I know I am beyond frugal- yea DH calls me cheap-like I half paper towels for my children to use if I am out of napkins (but I am rarely out as I pick up at any fast food we go inside to! Yea, you will usually find Quiznos napkins here)- and perhaps that is a little over board but. If any one ever sees me melting those wonderful but priccccey watercolor crayons- call for immediate backup. I am having issues!

You are not actually melting your watercolor crayon. You color on paper, and the gamsol 'melts' what you have colored to blend it.

I use mine kind o circular...I guess. I usually use the tip but sometimes I use the side if I am working on a larger area.

Waaah...here I thought I was so smart to try this, and I was coming to post my "Magic Crayon" technique idea. I was sooo excited because I have always loved crayons, and there are so many colors now. Thought I'd do a quick search first just to be sure, and voila, you already posted this thread! Oh well, here's my take on it:
I found it actually EASIER than the pencils, because the color went down so well it didn't leave lines like the pencils do for me. I think it also moves the color around a LOT more, so you can do more blending (but you have to make sure you don't leave a white area by mistake).
Here is my second attempt, on GP white paper, with Palette Burnt Sienna ink, colored with good old Crayolas & baby oil gel. I am not the best at any kind of coloring, so keep that in mind! ;) My first attempt was on watercolor paper, and that worked also, but I didn't post it because I used some pencils & some crayons on it.
