Brayering without a brayer??

Is there anyway to do a background that looks like it brayered without having a brayer?

Have you tried using chalks with a sponge dauber or other type of sponge applicator? The finished product is slightly different than brayering using a brayer.

You can use glossy cardstock, Ranger Distress Inks (or Adirondack inks) and sponges. It stays wet long enough to get good blending.

I use direct to card technique with small block (1"x1") ink pads. I find this works really well if you are using masks and/or only need to do small areas, although I have to admit to having done larger areas as well. If you look in my gallery you will see the double page I did of a creek with lizards for a scrapbook page. There is another one of my daughter and two grandsons done in the form of an ATC, although it is a scrap page as well. I did both of these pages without using a brayer and I am really happy how they came up.

I just swish the ink pad over the area until I have built it up to the colour I want. I will use several shades of the same colour. I will also use a blender pen to make the transitions smoother. I am quite happy with using this method; so much I forget where my brayer actually is. lol.
