binder clips

This is probably a crazy question, but is there a tutorial on how to decorate the binder clips?

It's not a crazy question, but I haven't seen a tutorial. I have decorated a few by looking at pictures of the decorated ones. Mine turned out pretty well.

Here is what I did. I used copy paper to make a pattern.

Measure the width of your binder clip. Cut a strip of paper that width and longer than you need. Put the paper on the clip, wrap around to the other side and mark it. Use this for your pattern to cut your cardstock. I used pattern paper.

I adhered my paper with glue dots on one side, put another glue dot on the bottom of the binder, and then on around to the other side, fastening with a couple more glue dots.

I decorated the metal "arms" with ribbon knots. Here is a great picture of some cute ones in the gallery:

I've had really good luck using Zip Dry glue to glue the paper and embellishements to my binder clips.

I use the 2" large size binder clips. I cut my patterned paper 2" wide by just a bit short of 3". Take the arms off of the binder clip and then place a thin line of Zip Dry around the back side of the paper. Slip one side under the rolled edge of the clip and smooth paper down and around bottom of the clip to the other side slipping it under the opposite sides rolled edge.

The Zip Dry dries quickly, but not so fast that you cannot do some sliding and adjusting to the paper if you don't get it perfectly aligned the first time.

Before I replace the handles I wrap a thin ribbon around the top edge of the clip just under the rolled edge and stick it on with thin Tacky Tape.

Replace the arms and tie a ribbon around the two arms to hold in place.

I usually embellish with a small Prima flowers or cute metal embellishments. at the top edge of the clip so it ends up looking like a tiny purse.

I love making these. They are so quick and easy to make as gifts and they are cute!

Sounds darling. Do you have pix? I have about 4 drawers full of various glues but no Zip Dry. Have you tried any others? Where do you buy Zip Dry? Thanks for the help.

I've also tried using Tacky Tape and Mod Podge to stick the paper on to the metal clip. I didn't have good luck with Tacky Tape because I'm not very good at getting the paper on straight and once it is stuck with Tacky Tape it is REALLY stuck. The Mod Podge worked well as long as I was sure to used a thin layer on the back of the paper so it didn't bubble. I just happen to prefer the way mine come out with the Zip Dry so I usually use it instead.

I found my Zip Dry in the adhesive aisle at Michael's.

I tried to post photos, but it looks like since I'm new here I have to post a few more times before I can post pictures of my binder clips. I will come back here and post them as soon as I can.
